India is taking a big step forward in semiconductor manufacturing! Tata Projects announced that the construction of Micron Technology’s semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, will be completed by the end of 2025. This is India’s first semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility, and 60% of the work is already done. The remaining work is expected to be completed by December this year. What makes this project special? The plant is being built on 50 acres in the Sanand industrial area, and it’s set to become one of the largest back-end semiconductor plants in the world. Construction started in July 2023, and currently, 3,500 workers are involved in building this massive facility. An ATMP facility handles critical tasks like testing, packaging, and marking semiconductors. Once completed, this project will create 5,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs, boosting employment opportunities in Gujarat and across India. Surat-based semiconductor company, Suchi Semicon Pvt Ltd, has unveiled plans to establish #Gujarat’s first #Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) plant with a significant #investment of $100 million. This state-of-the-art facility will initially cover 30,000 square feet and have the capability to produce up to 3 million chips daily. The project is expected to generate approximately 1,200 new jobs, providing a substantial boost to the local #economy. The government on Monday approved a proposal of Kaynes to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat with 6.3 million chips per day capacity, entailing an investment of Rs 3,307 crore. Announcing the decisions of the Union Cabinet, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that a complete semiconductor ecosystem is coming up in India. "Today, the Cabinet has approved Kaynes' plant, with a capacity of 6.3 million chips per day. The plant will come up in 46 acres, it is a big plant and large portion of the production will go for Kaynes Industries, it has already been booked," the minister said. The plant will also cater to chips related to the power sector. The company has already acquired land in Sanand, Gujarat for the project, and construction will start soon. The proposed investment for the unit is about Rs 3,307 crore. Tata's Groundbreaking Chip Plant in Assam: A Game-Changer for Jobs and Technology in Semiconductor Industry!!
