SETBACKS AT PROJECT MOORHEY Setbacks are inevitable in any construction project – it's how we handle them that defines our success. Last week, we discovered a shaky wall right in the heart of the property, throwing our structural plans into disarray. It would have been easy to brush it aside, to delay the decision-making process. But that's not how we operate. Instead, we tackled the issue head-on. We assessed the problem, explored all possible solutions, and sought expert advice. A quick video call with the engineer sealed the deal – the decision was clear: take down the damn wall. And just like that, we're back in motion. It's moments like these that test our resolve, but they also showcase our ability to adapt and overcome. Onwards and upwards! 💪🔨 #ConstructionChallenges #AdaptAndOvercome #KeepMovingForward

Reflecting on this photo from earlier this year in North Scottsdale at Cavasson, I’m reminded of the journey each construction project represents for Brien Contracting. Every project has its challenges, but the morning light captured here reminds me of the importance of perspective in business ownership, especially in the construction industry. It’s easy to get bogged down in the daily grind, but a simple shift in perspective can reveal positives that were always there. Here's how I lead my teams to remain focused: • Encourage Taking a Step Back: When projects feel overwhelming, I urge my team to pause and gain some distance. It often provides a clearer view and fresh perspective. • Promote Team Input: I foster an environment where team members can share their insights. Often, they bring up solutions or opportunities that we might not have considered. This also includes taking responsibility quickly when unforeseen circumstances arise. • Emphasize Clear Communication: I ensure that everyone understands the importance of direct and specific communication, making sure our needs and expectations are crystal clear. This photo serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when we focus on the light and let the shadows fall behind us. What tips can you share which help guide your teams to remain focused? #generalcontractor #commercialconstruction #arizonarealestate

🔨 Why I Love Working with Construction Clients 🔨 There’s something special about working with people in the construction industry. They walk into a meeting, and while they may not always give you the full picture upfront, they leave with us knowing everything from their latest project to some of their biggest secrets! 😄 The personalities in this industry are unmatched - real, down-to-earth, and always good for a laugh. It’s not just about the numbers; it’s the stories, the challenges, and the bonds we build. Each day brings something new, and that’s what makes it exciting. The work can be complex, but that’s part of the fun. I thrive on solving problems and helping these hardworking professionals build their dreams, one project at a time. 🏗️ #ConstructionLife #AccountancyWithAView #LoveMyClients #BuildingRelationships

While some construction contractors talk about technology and digital adoption... others are just getting on and doing it. The key difference from my experience? A deep self-awareness from the folks in head office/support roles. An understanding of where their bread is buttered and what life is really like on-site. The best folks... 1) Add Real Value, Not Just Tasks: Instead of inventing more spreadsheets and reports for teams to fill out for their own benefit, they do the hard work and influence projects with facts. 2) Respect the Person in the Arena: They know it's easy to critique from a distance. They remember what it's like on-site and that sometimes talking about some new technology feels like fussing over the front garden while the house is on fire. 3) Know how to Use Soft and Hard Power When you are on-site and everyone has direct reporting lines to a project manager or director, hard power is usually the straightest line to the hoop. Try to use that from head office and you can sometimes trigger a revolt. This discussion with Ivor Barbrook (Head of Planning at BAM Nuttall) was a refreshing reminder of those dynamics.

One thing that always amazes the Pulley team is how often teams are managing their permits, projects, & starts all in a million excel sheets through a million different people. 😮 *and how much time and money is needlessly spent doing this* -- Prospect: "Yeah we have a great handle on permitting..." ; "Our in-house team does a great job." 🤥 Me: "We're hearing that there are often costly delays and that rounds of comments can be a huge headache. Is this not the case for you..?" Prospect: "Well yeah OF COURSE we have delays... EVERYONE has delays." Me: 🤐 -- You get the point. So many challenges and hurdles that are so easily avoidable. Permitting through legacy methodologies is fine if you're cool with doing the same old thing. Permitting with Pulley is fine if you're cool with actually doing this faster and a lot easier. Peace. Love. Pulley. *huge props to Dana Lee Mollica for the dope edit below.*
