This NAIDOC Week AFSA celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We started the week with the relaunch of our Indigenous network now known as ‘Gugurmin’, the Wiradjuri word for ‘emu in the sky’. The network will help us embed reconciliation in our culture. We were also privileged to hear from Wiradjuri woman and astrophysicist Dr Kirsten Banks, who provided Indigenous insights and stories about stars, constellations and the Milky Way. This included an explanation of Gugurmin, one of the most famous dark constellations in the sky. At AFSA, we are encouraged to keep standing tall, to listen and learn more about the heritage of the world’s oldest continuous living culture and engage in meaningful dialogue. #NAIDOCWeek #BlakLoudProud 📷: Angel Lopez-Sanchez

Space exploration, Mars science, Unknown risks, and Hope... Can the scientific perspective of hope be beneficial for the astronauts of the unexplored space missions? The human centered attitude in a personal and industrial approach has been seriously considered during the COVID-19 pandemic era regardless the spheres of medicine, biology, health, safety, well-being, and government policy. The new book (Environmental Hope) reflects the outcomes of various social cases where modern technologies fail to provide the urgent needs of government, society, and individuals.

Interesting article and space perspective. ISLAM AND SPACE EXPLORATION ABSTRACT: Today, the space race has resumed where it left off in the 1970s. The first race threatened Christianity. This time the race threatens Islam. The potential settlement of planets, like in the atmosphere of Venus where the “sun rises from the west” and on Mars, threatens Islam. Anti-religious forces may use space exploration and future human settlement off-Earth to undermine Islamic doctrines. For these reasons, Muslims need to settle on other planets and create an artificial Islamic habitat. The widespread opinion among Muslims is that the world is unique and that there is no concrete biology outside the world. It is possible to encounter “intelligent beings” on other planets, and anti-religious forces may use these discoveries to undermine Islamic teaching. If Islam is to thrive in the context of humans as a spacefaring species, traditional Islamic teaching needs to be moderated and be ready for new situations that differ from planet Earth. Oktar, S. (2023). Islam and Space Exploration. Astropolitics, 21(2–3), 112–126. https://lnkd.in/gZZC23zp In reality, if humankind became a multi-planetary species, wouldn’t the newly encountered environments, experiences, and newly developed ways of life afford different philosophical and spiritual awakenings? Will humans, let’s say living on Mars, accept the tenets of their religion when throughout history earth is the main character in their religion of choice? Where does a supporting actor like Mars stand? If you are in a new world wouldn’t you want your world and lives to be central to your spiritual being?

Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, may seem like just another icy body floating in space, but it's much more than that. At first glance, Europa looks like an enormous frozen desert, covered in ice for as far as the eye can see. Its surface is full of cracks, ridges, and massive blocks of ice that have shifted and refrozen over time. But what lies beneath the surface is what makes Europa truly special. Scientists believe that under this thick ice crust, which might be as deep as 30 kilometers, there’s a vast ocean of liquid water. Imagine that—an ocean that spans the entire moon, stretching for thousands of kilometers! Even more surprising is the fact that this ocean could be up to 100 kilometers deep, making it larger than all of Earth’s oceans combined. But what keeps this ocean from freezing solid, given that Europa is so far from the Sun? The secret lies in Jupiter’s powerful gravitational pull. As Europa orbits this giant, it is caught in a constant gravitational struggle. Picture a small moon being pulled and pushed by the enormous forces of Jupiter—this creates friction inside Europa’s core. This friction generates heat deep within the moon, which then prevents the water beneath the ice from freezing solid. Europa is not just a cold, lifeless moon. Its hidden ocean might hold incredible secrets. Could it be home to some form of life? Scientists are eagerly trying to find out. This mysterious world has become one of the most promising places in our solar system to search for life beyond Earth. Europa’s ocean, hidden beneath miles of ice, remains liquid because of an incredible process known as tidal heating. This process is what makes Europa so intriguing to scientists, as it keeps the ocean from freezing despite the moon’s location far from the Sun’s warmth. Jupiter, the massive gas giant that Europa orbits, has an immense gravitational field. As Europa orbits this giant, it is caught in a constant gravitational struggle. TAMPERED The story was partly inspired by my Nephew's interest in extraterrestrial and life beyond our universe and my idea that humans in general are not capable of doing so much damage to our mother earth, unless there is something terrible went wrong. The PLOT: TAMPERED is a Sci-fi fiction, based on the idea that advanced alien civilizations exist in the undiscovered galaxies of the universe and they crossed path with the earth thousands of year ago. The result of them crossing the path with earth is human beings and human civilization. There was an advanced alien civilization in an unknown galaxy, which will be destroyed in a few million years as they have exhausted all the resources on their planet, resulting in deadly internal warfare and the sun of their universe will explode in a million years. However, residents of the planet are not ready to go down with it. There are many tribes among the aliens, and each tribe ventures out on a mission to find and colonize a new planet. This quest brings one of the tribes to earth, millions of years ago. Humans have not evolved when they arrives on earth. Everything was perfect for them, except that they cannot thrive in oxygen dominated environment, as it is lethal for them. They can destroy the life on earth within minutes, with the kind of technology they have but they decide not to, as a sudden destruction could push the system to an undesirable state. They only want to eliminate all life and the source of oxygen. They do not want their genes contaminated with living matter on earth. They still have time, so they cook a plan. They want others to finish their job. They finds the species on earth which is capable of doing it for them. They find apes, smart, intelligent, and have bodies that not only resembles their own but also suitable to accomplish their mission. They capture big apes, and extract their sex cells and tampered them with their own genetic material. The result, a human being, smart, intelligent, and highly efficient, but extremely lethal to earth and all earthlings. The alien genes is inherently abhorrent to earth and earthlings. The mission of alien genes is destruction of everything that evolves and belongs to earth. The alien genes become virulent slowly as humans evolve. It potent with every passing generation, becomes more advance and more lethal to earth and earthlings. With every passing generation the alien gene produces generations that are lethal and inclined towards producing weapons, warfare, and destruction. There is no stopping. To ensure that their mission is on track, they have been visiting us, monitoring us and looking over us. But will they succeed in their mission to wipeout all the life forms and earthlings on the earth or someone will tamper and defuse their mission? If you are curious to know, then follow, TAMPERED. - Kanna Siripurapu a shoutout to Anish Kumar Kashyap
