🌟 Unlocking Potential: A Plea to Hiring Managers 🌟 Today, I find myself reflecting on the invaluable contributions of military spouses, a group often overlooked in the hiring landscape. In recent times, I've noticed an encouraging trend within the Defence and Public Sector—initiatives to fast-track applications for military leavers. Fantastic news, right? 🙌 But let's take a moment to consider the unsung heroes: the military spouses. Our brave service personnel faced undoubted challenges. Frequent relocations, extended deployments, and the uncertainties of life in a high-stress environment are part and parcel of this unique journey. And yes, the "not-so-ideal" living situations are a part of that too. Now, here's the catch… The same hurdles apply to military spouses. The options? Either braving the journey alone while your significant other is on the move or packing up and moving with them, making committing to an office job an intricate puzzle. Many spouses I know find solace in remote work or entrepreneurial ventures. Unfortunately, the support and resources available for them, especially through covenants, often remain elusive or are not clearly communicated. What a missed opportunity! I'm fortunate to have an extensive network in this space, and it's evident that numerous companies are yet to tap into this goldmine of talent. #TransitioningVeterans that were recruiters, career counselors, personnel/human resources specialists, human resources officers, or who maybe had TAD/collateral duty experiences like being a recorder on a selection board or serving as DAPA (drug and alcohol program advisor), or who generally cared deeply about staff care and compensation - this HR Business Partner role might be a good fit. Point out how many people you supported in your military role (Chemonics-Washington has very roughly 1000 employees, many of whom work remotely across the United States) and the types of difficult chats you had with them or the types of resources you connected them with. Break down the billeting and manning documents you used and be able to explain the difference (which don't have much meaning in the civilian world). Also, notably, it JUST posted. #Veterans, our resumes can be tough to read, and it's to our benefit to apply quickly in order to provide the recruiter the maximum time to understand the value our experience brings to the role.
