When self-publishing authors are writing a stage play, they must consider the limitations of theatre. The larger the cast and the more settings a story has can limit which theatre companies have the resources for production. Playwrights should take a minimalist approach to their stage plays. Every character and setting should have a purpose. If it doesn’t, it should be removed. Learn more about writing a stage play at: https://lnkd.in/eE7vjgiu

When it comes to programming for your community theatre, it's important to value your stakeholders - both your audience and your actors. Recently, we sent out a tentative season selection to our email list of community theatre performers and asked them to rate how likely they were to audition for each play. The feedback was incredible - over 90 responses that gave us insight into the shows our community was actually interested in dedicating months of their lives to creating. Thanks to this feedback, we sent out a follow-up survey with alternate titles and discovered that one of those titles was much more appealing to our actors. This information was invaluable and something we never would have discovered this early if we hadn't taken the time to ask. So, if you're in a similar position, don't be afraid to ask your community for feedback. You never know what insights you might uncover! #communitytheatre #stakeholderfeedback #valuingyouractors #valuingyouraudience

What Hans Weichhart, AEA, AGVA said: To me, theatre isn't just a building. Theatre isn't just a play or a musical. Theatre is storytelling and whether you tell that story through words, dance, music, or art, it doesn't matter. The impact that theatre has to provoke thought, invoke emotions, and inspire change is what makes me so proud to celebrate #TIOS and to thank all of the dedicated #theatreeducators out there! Storytelling--also essential in writing for grants, annual reports, promotional information, etc. etc. etc. Wonder just how many people in grants, marketing, PR, etc. also have #theatreeducators to thank? Now's the time!
March is #TheatreInOurSchools month! Join us and thousands of students and theatre educators to raise awareness of the benefits of theatre education and celebrate the impact that theatre has on students' and educators' lives. Remember to tag us in your posts and use the hashtag #TheatreInOurSchools so we can share! To apply for the Outstanding Impact Award, use the score sheet and document your troupe's efforts, then submit your application! Top-scoring troupes will receive a prize package from the official sponsor of Theatre in Our Schools, Disney Theatrical Productions, in partnership with Music Theatre International and EdTA. MA Shakespeare & Education. Teacher of Media and Drama Was a Broadcast Journalist reading the News in the UK Experience in Theatre / TIE / Dance. Experience also in the Houses of Parliament as a Media Researcher
Very useful for my dissertation.
Drama teachers, we shouldn’t need to Make the case for our subject. And yet too often it feels like we have to be seen to show more rigour than other departments because of the prevailing, reductive and stereotypical perception of drama as a ‘mickey mouse’ subject. Not only this, we have desperately to clutch to the realm of abstractions like ‘soft skills’ 🤢in order to safeguard our relevance. I don’t think we need to, or that we should feel beholden to this utter nonesense - it’s defensive. Show me a good theatre director who isn’t an active intellectual? A designer who can’t conceptualize? An actor who doesn’t have an acute sensistivity to language? A published playwright who doesn’t have a depth of knowledge and understanding? Where are the teachers who can fully realise and intepret Shakespeare for a young audience? Well they are in the drama studio. I would love to be able to claim that exam boards aren’t prostrate to the need to justify drama’s existence - but they are. It’s time to move away from justification and move towards education. #teachdrama #drama #dramateacher #arts #schools #artseducation #theatre
