And were off! The IHQSE Foundations in Healthcare Leadership Fall Cohort started with a bang this morning bringing a group of individuals from across the country together to begin their one-year leadership journey. Over the next 4 days we'll cover 14 core leadership competencies with the last half day reserved for creation of their customized development roadmap of drills they'll do over the next year to develop the skills taught in class. This is supported by a year of monthly 1-on-1 coaching. Why? Because leadership cannot be taught in 4 days! #healthcare #leadership #healthcareleadership

When does QI become research, requiring IRB approval? QI is the art of implementation while research is the science of discovery. Sounds simple, but this is trickier than many think. Using the guiding questions below can help steer you in the right direction. When in doubt, go to your IRB for guidance. Intent: 1) To improve institution-specific care in accordance with best practices = QI 2) To create new, generalizable knowledge = Research Design: 1) Evaluate patients before and after an intervention = QI 2) Randomization or sampling of patients = Research Population: 1) All patients on a unit, clinic, or program = QI 2) Subset of patients to draw conclusions for the larger population = Research Effect: 1) Impacts all patients equally = QI 2) Impacts some patients differently than others = Research Dissemination: 1) Point is to share strategies, methods, barriers, learnings = QI 2) Point is to add generalizable knowledge = Research Feel free to reach out to IHQSE@cuanschutz.edu with questions. #qualityimprovement #patientsafety #leadership #research

Way to go, Meredith Beaton!! 👏 👏 A BIG congratulations to Foundation in Healthcare Leadership graduate, Meredith Beaton, NP, on her recent appointment as University of Colorado Department of Medicine Associate Vice Chair for APP Development. In the associate vice chair for APP development role, Meredith will work with department and division leaders to develop, implement, and support programs that promote APP faculty development with the goal of successful development, recognition, and retention of excellent APP faculty in the department.

WOW 🤩 Huge congratulations to a couple of IHQSE Alumni! The University of Colorado School of Medicine hosted an awards ceremony to honor a number of healthcare educators for their teaching in CU SOM's innovative longitudinal integrated clerkship programs. Winners included Allison Costello, MD, MBA, who was awarded the Community Health Advocacy LIC Teacher of the Year Award, and Lauren Harrington, MD, who was awarded a Bardsley for demonstrating exceptional humanism and commitment to compassion, collaboration, personal growth, and responsibility to the patient.
