I am very happy to let you guys that "Helpster", my entry to Inquiry Bot Challenge by IEEE CS Kerala Chapter has emerged as one of the entries that bagged the first position. This experience got me in touch with LLM-based chatbot development. I also got to discover a wide variety of tools that accelerate the development process of such bots. Chainlit was one such amazing Python tool that provided a cool pre-built UI for Chatbots. This enabled me to focus my efforts on the bot rather than the UI. I got to go much deeper into LangChain, a framework to work with LLMs. LangSmith is another offering from the same folks behind LangChain which is a great tool for debugging and monitoring LLM apps. I also used OpenAI APIs to build it. Hence considerable effort had to go into token usage optimization. One curious thing that I discovered through the process is that app development was only 30% of the overall effort. The rest of it went into finding quality data for the bot to learn.
