In CS, and frankly everywhere, I believe leading from a place of empathy and compassion is paramount. At the end of the day, people are people who have their own sets of learnings, challenges, struggles, background, etc and in the workplace they’re doing their best to excel in their role. Leading from a place of compassion and empathy while still coming from a place of high respect of integrity is what creates sticky relationships. This can look like: • owning up to when you made a wrong decisions even if it had the best intentions • leveling with someone that you may have just simply missed something (we’re all human! It happens!) •gently holding others accountable but still holding grace and understanding • just checking in outside your general scope of your relationship if you know they’re going through something …and so on When I was back in the restaurant industry as a hostess/maître d’, I used to say that customers are almost willing to always work with you as long as you communicate, are transparent, but especially when you are genuine and empathetic to their situation. Be kind always!

it’s a hard work really, especially if you’re empathetic by nature, it’s like a default feature and requires smart management in order to curb it down so it’s not vasted on unnecessary causes like fraud for instance otherwise it might lead to constant burnout. However, if it’s not given by default it can be trained as it’s a must have or good to have personality trait that is needed in leadership indeed.

"There will always be more good ideas than there is capacity to execute" - Chris McChesney, co-author of The 4 Disciplines of Execution. This unavoidable reality is so easily forgotten because smart, enthusiastic leaders don't want to say 'no' to good ideas. Silence in conflict is equally as damaging as violence. In business, leaders must create the conditions for effective dialogue and hold themselves and others accountable for achieving it. The alternative leads to mediocre performance at best. https://leadershyft.ca/ #effectivecommunication #leadershipcoaching #conflictresolution
