A new report by Women's Foundation of Minnesota and Center on Women, Gender, and Public Policy at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs shows MN’s gender and racial pay gap is pervasive and persistent. We must and can do better. That’s why the report highlights the new law that prohibits employers from asking about a job applicant’s past pay. https://lnkd.in/eGft85hi

"Men are more than four times as likely as women to be among those with very high incomes, with women making up only 19.4pc of the top 1pc of earners, according to research by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). This compares to 19.7pc pre-pandemic." This is very aligned to our research into the legal profession and the chances women have to be promoted and for the gender pay gap to narrow. In legal, we're looking at 86 years for the gender pay gap to narrow which means not in our livetimes! https://lnkd.in/eWxRFTum

The gender pay gap is a sobering issue, as it means that women are missing out on a significant amount of money each year. The figure of $26,393 is a substantial sum. This money could greatly benefit those who are not receiving it. It is imperative that we take action to close this gap and ensure that all women have equal access to earnings. Follow us today, as on our next post we will share some suggestions on how we can work towards this goal - together. #alteriswomen #economicempowerment #genderpaygap

This front-page article in Times of India sheds light on societal hypocrisy, emphasizing the unequal distribution of household responsibilities between genders. While girls are encouraged to pursue equal opportunities, boys are rarely taught to share household burdens. This imbalance results in added pressure on women, reflecting in corporate biases. Women planning families are often overlooked for roles, perpetuating inequality. It's time to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete actions towards true equality. #GenderEquality #WorkplaceEquality #SocietalChange

♀️ #IWD2024 corner: Women and men often experience #taxation differently. 🪙 This stems from broader dynamics that affect how women participate in the economy. Women participate in the economic sphere at a disadvantage because they tend to have less access to formal employment, limited ownership of property and assets, and face a wage gap. ➡️ Gender equality and fiscal justice advocates have long raised these arguments in their demands for equitable and progressive tax systems. However, much of the research on gender equality and taxation has been shaped by the experiences of high-income counties. 🔎 In low-income countries, women make up a significant portion of the informal sector. They are also concentrated in the group of lowest earners in the informal sector. When this reality intersects with tax policies, it produces disproportionate cost burdens on women. 📝 In this blog, our Research Assistant Deanndre Chen reflects on the gender dimensions of taxation in the context of low-income countries, pulling insights from a score of ICTD work. A moment of reflection Prioritizing the needs and emancipation of young women over young men could potentially lead to a sense of neglect or inequality among young men. It's important to strive for equality and empowerment for all genders while recognizing and addressing the unique challenges each group faces. Balancing support for both young women and young men can lead to a more inclusive and fair society. Let us strive for complementarity rather than equality. #DancerofEquality #DangerofNeglectingYoungAdult

Embracing and understanding womanhood may be the key to closing the wage gap. Well that, and getting everyone on board. Everyone meaning business and government working together. More effort needs to happen here in the U.S. for our women and girls. Girls who are missing school because of periods, women missing work due to motherhood. Mothers falling behind in their careers to nurture our next generations. Decades of nudging girls away from certain career paths leaves us with seasoned CEOs and high paid leadership roles....that are not women. Understand she has a family, understand she is not focused at work when her little one is sick. But she is out of PTO.... What happens to generations of kids with less and less time with their parents? Less time with their mothers ? Less time with caregivers when they are sick? I care about motherhood just as deeply as I care about women being able to provide for themselves. If there are programs and policies in place right now, our leaders are doing a lousy job of getting that information out. Businesses need to understand how they can afford to keep her through her pregnancy? How can they legally give her an additional two days time off ? How can our government support the business's spending the time and money to grow the women in their company? If we don't make changes... our nations mothering will start to mimic Holsteins and Jerseys. Still too few women in decision-making. Despite progress, only 29% of seats in the US national parliaments are held by women. Globally, gender parity in leadership remains a distant goal, with significant gaps at every level. More women in politics means more inclusive policies on health, education, childcare, and ending violence. Let’s work together for a future where every voice counts. 🌍 Learn more: https://hubs.li/Q02R4rz60 #WomenInLeadership #PoliticalRepresentation #GenderEquality #UNWomen
