Ensuring Corrosion Resistance in Steel Structure Design Comprehensive Design Standards ISO 12944 provides essential guidelines for designing steel structures that are resistant to corrosion. This part of the standard emphasizes the importance of early design considerations to prevent corrosion traps and ensure easy maintenance access. Proper design can significantly enhance the durability and safety of the structure. Preventing Common Issues The standard outlines strategies to prevent common corrosion issues, such as trapped water and galvanic corrosion. It also provides detailed instructions on treating gaps and sharp edges, which are particularly vulnerable to corrosion. By following these guidelines, designers can avoid potential pitfalls that lead to premature corrosion. Long-Term Advantages Incorporating corrosion prevention measures during the design phase not only extends the life of the structure but also reduces long-term maintenance costs. It ensures that the structure remains safe and functional over time. Adopting ISO 12944 standards is a proactive approach that benefits both designers and asset owners. #Infrastructure #SteelProtection #ISO12944 https://lnkd.in/gxy8xgS

Future-Proofing the Coatings Industry with Apprenticeships Addressing Workforce Challenges The coatings industry faces a significant challenge: an aging workforce. Jack Tighe Ltd. tackled this issue head-on by pioneering the Industrial Coatings Applicator Apprenticeship (ICAA). In August 2020, the first cohort of seven apprentices completed the program with distinction, marking a new era for the industry. Strategic Workforce Development The decision to implement an apprenticeship program was driven by the need to attract younger employees and ensure the transfer of critical skills. By working closely with ICATS, Jack Tighe Ltd. tailored the training to meet its specific needs, resulting in a more skilled and younger workforce. The apprentices not only received valuable on-the-job training but also contributed fresh perspectives to the company. Continued Commitment Following the success of the initial cohort, Jack Tighe Ltd. is committed to continuing the apprenticeship program. A new group of apprentices is set to begin their journey, ensuring a steady flow of qualified coatings applicators. This program highlights the importance of strategic workforce planning and the role of apprenticeships in securing the future of the industry. #ICAA #Coatings #WorkforceDevelopment https://lnkd.in/dTCmE46

Transforming Coating Inspection with ElcoMaster and IRIS In the field of corrosion control, coating inspection plays a vital role. Traditionally, inspectors relied on paper-based methods to record and manage data, a process fraught with inefficiencies and potential errors. The advent of digital technologies like ElcoMaster and IRIS is transforming this landscape, offering robust solutions for real-time data management. The Drawbacks of Paper-Based Methods Paper records are cumbersome, prone to errors, and require significant storage space. Data retrieval and report generation are time-consuming processes, leading to inefficiencies. ElcoMaster: A Comprehensive Digital Solution ElcoMaster from Elcometer revolutionizes data management in coating inspection. It allows data transfer via Bluetooth and Cloud applications, enabling inspectors to store, analyze, and generate reports instantly. This system enhances accuracy and efficiency, streamlining the entire inspection process. IRIS: Intelligent Reporting Inspection Software IRIS provides a versatile platform for recording and uploading inspection data. Developed by industry experts, it ensures compliance with international standards and facilitates real-time data sharing. The system supports both IOS and Android devices, making it accessible and user-friendly. Benefits of Adopting Digital Technologies 1. Efficiency: Digital solutions reduce the time required for data collection and reporting. 2. Accuracy: Real-time data entry minimizes the risk of errors and misinterpretations. 3. Sustainability: Going paperless with digital solutions helps reduce the carbon footprint.
