Completed our first Young Alumni Panel for Athletics tonight! I’ve always admired the impact that alumni can have on current student-athletes. We are so thankful for our alumni who shared their experiences & how athletics helped prepare them for their current careers! Some gems from our alumni: - The biggest resource for you to manage isn’t going to be money, it’s going to be your time. - Learn to say no. - Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. - Bet on yourself.

Did you know that currently, the Power 5 conferences are set to cover 40% of the costs, while the remaining 27 Division I conferences will split the remaining 60%? Mid-majors, already feeling the financial squeeze and struggling to produce quality sports programs with over 10 times less revenue, will have to make some tough decisions in the coming years. The entire landscape is likely to change, yet several mid-majors are digging in their heels in preparation for the storm. If I were considering attending one of these smaller mid-major programs, I would be asking what specific challenges they are facing and how they are producing quality sports opportunities with significantly less revenue. I would also like to know what difficult decisions mid-majors will have to make in the next few years due to the financial disparity with Power 5 conferences. How are mid-major conferences preparing for the changes in the college sports landscape? Feel free to do some comparisons yourself at https://lnkd.in/gCqtxjhm.

President of SBRnet & Sports Market Analytics. Sports Fan Data Covering 19 Sports with 65 Categories
The Masters Golf Tournament gets started this week. While all eyes will be on Augusta National Golf Club, SBRnet's Bryce Hadley wanted to get a more in depth look at just who will be watching the event via traditional TV and streaming. SBRnet's annual study of sports fans examines the change in golf’s viewership and fandom over the past years. In this first chart, we can see that female viewership grew more than male viewership, with a total year-to-year increase of over 22%. We also see that Gen Z and Millennial Viewership increased more than the Gen X and Baby Boomer generations. We see in the data that the golf fanbase is becoming younger on average. The Baby Boomer Generation that made up 40% of the fanbase in 2019, has dropped below 30% of the fanbase in golf today. We also see that Gen Z has gone from 5% of the Fanbase, has grown to around 15% of golf’s current fanbase. The rise of female and Gen Z fans give the golf community a positive outlook on its future. https://lnkd.in/e_vjNDJQ #golf #masters #sportsanalytics

Shout out to Paul Lowden, MBA, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Davenport University and Steve Wilson, Vice President of Athletics & Student Engagement at William Woods University for presenting a great session today at #NACDA24 titled “Athletics Place in Enrollment – Using Key Data on Recruitment and Retention.” I enjoyed attending and came away with some enlightening insights! Key Takeaways: • Find the sweet spot for the number of students per sport…not too little, not too much. • Athletic Directors: Go to lunch with your VP of Enrollment every week to get to know each other and talk shop. • Make sure you understand a goal number AND break even number for each sport. Lower than break even means you are losing money. • Don’t ignore opportunities with non-varsity sports to help drive enrollment. • Not from the session, but another surefire formula for success: Deploy the ARI Athletics CRM in your athletic department to enhance your recruiting and management of your current athletes, alumni and other contacts. Reach out if you’d like to learn more!

Couldn’t agree more with the insights in the post below. When it comes to building better collaboration between Athletics and Admissions, or anywhere in life, it starts with simple things like getting to know each other. I especially like this tip: “Athletic Directors: Go to lunch with your VP of Enrollment every week to get to know each other and talk shop.” Whatever you do, don’t forget that it all starts with good relationships that can only be built with time and real connection. Excited to be attending the #SlateSummit next week to chat with Admissions colleagues about how they collaborate with their Athletics colleagues.
