Social leadership, in my understanding, seems to be an extension of transformational leadership and servant leadership. What these highly popular leadership styles share is an outward focus on putting others first, building trust, and allowing relationships to be the underlying fabric of business success. #Leadership #BusinessPurpose #Innovation

It's been a joy to see the many job updates that fill the LinkedIn feed at this time of year. I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of many of those journeys and proud to see so many rising leaders flourish, for the betterment of our schools. One point that always causes a niggle is thinking about those that were unsuccessful in securing new roles this last year; whether that's a promotion or moving on to a new school. Who and what is left behind....the collateral damage, some might say. When Claire Peet and I first working together it was because she had this exact question (or two as it happens ;-): How do we support, develop and champion for our unsuccessful promotion candidates? How do we provide opportunities for them to experience new scope and scale in a way that provides exposure, without creating additional burdensome expectations? Since then we've partnered together to develop programming that addresses exactly these questions at scale, in a way that is accessible. And when #PeerSphere were putting together their communities, I was adamant that a community that serves those aspiring senior leaders should be a top priority . I'm delighted to see this community return, grow and flourish. If you're setting your sights on applying for senior leadership now or in the near future, this is a community not to miss. https://buff.ly/47a7mIy This post was inspired by the following article and invites you to share - What advice would you give to someone that didn't get promotion? https://buff.ly/4cEgBlp

There are countless books, white papers, blog posts, workshops, and TED Talks about building a community, all offering complex models and guidelines. A strong and cohesive community is pretty simple. It’s about bringing together people with similar interests and challenges to learn, connect, and serve — for the good of themselves and others. Communities that make a difference understand the chances one gives are just as important as the chances one takes. That’s why Chance Nation exists: to give and take chances on ourselves and others. Chance Nation is an exclusive, invite-only community connecting visionary leaders based on specific challenges, industry focus, and leadership goals. We do this in various ways, including providing a private social network for community members only, highly curated leadership events, access to our member directory, and… well, you get the idea. You can learn all about the benefits at ChanceNation.com. More than anything, what Chance Nation uniquely does better than anyone else is bring leaders with similar interests and challenges together to ask each other the following two questions: How can I help you? How can we give a chance to someone else? Life is more gratifying and full of purpose when you become someone who gives as many chances as you take.

I had a great time with the Community Schools Specialists from Sac City Schools yesterday. Slide deck: https://lnkd.in/g9AugRKC We used journaling, structured listening, and a closing circle to make meaning using the following prompts: TIME How did you approach your first few weeks in the role, and what tasks or priorities did you focus on? What has felt most meaningful or energizing about how you've spent your time so far? If you could change anything about how you spend your time going forward, what would it be and why? STAFF CULTURE How would you describe the staff culture at your school? What patterns have you noticed in how people interact with each other and engage with students and families? In what ways has this culture influenced your approach to leadership? RELATIONSHIPS Who have you interacted with most on campus, and what are those interactions like in terms of content and feeling? Who do you interact with less, and what patterns have you noticed in these connections? How are these patterns influencing your approach to leadership? WHY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS? Why are community schools essential and impactful right now? What makes you believe in this model and its approach? How do you see it making a difference for students, families, and the broader community? CONTEXT What have you learned about the neighborhood you serve and how its history has shaped it? What do you know about the organizations and elders in the community? How does your understanding of the community influence the way you approach your work? They loved the opportunity to reflect, share, connect, and plan together. So grateful for the opportunity to be with them yesterday!
