This session is designed for key workers’ compensation stakeholders to deepen the understanding of the intricate interplay between trauma, chronic pain, and psychological impairments, which often complicate recovery and delay or obstruct improved long-term outcomes. By focusing on the real challenges faced by high-risk populations such as first responders, construction workers, veterans, and others, we aim to shift the narrative toward a new gold standard of care—one that embraces the full spectrum of a patient's experience. Our esteemed panel of experts is dedicated to advancing care for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) within the workers' compensation system and includes Dr. Heechin Chae, Medical Director at Institutes of Health, who brings extensive experience in brain injury rehabilitation, having led major TBI programs at Harvard and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Gabe Dawson, a former paratrooper and elite athlete, now specializing in functional medicine and fiercely advocating for first responders struggling to receive adequate care. Dr. Lorimer Moseley, a globally recognized pain neuroscientist, is renowned for his groundbreaking work on pain and his widely acclaimed TEDx Talk, "Why Things Hurt." We also welcome a special guest speaker, Ms. Anne McDonnell from the Brain Injury Association of America who brings over 35 years of expertise in brain injury rehabilitation and policy advocacy, ensuring the voice of TBI survivors is heard. Together, this panel delivers unmatched insights into the complexities of treating TBI and comorbid conditions.
