Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)’s Post

The condition of critical infrastructure in the UK has engineers fearing for our safety. Our State of the Nation 2025 report reviews the main issues facing the industry and the engineering solutions to them. “Now is the time to establish a clear vision of how infrastructure can contribute to a better future for all of us,” says ICE President Professor Jim Hall. We should never have stopped pursuing nuclear power stations after Sizewell B, I so remember how the cost value analysis was weighted against them. Government wanted cheap fast returns with the dash for gas until COP changed all that. Green is good but you have to build mega battery storage to square the circle of wind and solar. I really hope lessons at Hinkley can be used to accelerate Nuclear build. What about SMR’s we have put them in Submarines for 50 years, now we need to put them on land.

This is a must read report!

A really powerful spotlight on the state of our infrastructure and a data based call to arms to do something about it. A must read!
