Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)’s Post

Civil engineers can often be very ‘output’-focused, says Janet Greenwood FICE, ICE Policy Fellow and director at major projects advisory, KPMG.   "Much of our work is on capital projects and programmes, and it’s easy to think that handover is the end of the story.   "But the end purpose of civil engineering isn’t to build things out of concrete and steel – it’s to deliver services that benefit society."   Read Janet's blog to learn more about the need for a whole-life, whole-system approach: https://lnkd.in/ds_psekT #SiloThinking #Construction #CivilEngineering #RAAC #SystemsThinking

  • "When making decisions about materials, focusing on a single metric... will likely lead to unintended consequences...
A whole-system approach at every stage of a project is necessary to address this."
Janet Greenwood, ICE Policy Fellow and director at major projects advisory, KPMG.

Thank you for putting it to such a defined specifications that it ain't about the materials but offering the best that will not only show the community the beauty but also the honesty that comes with engineering

Well captured details with loads of common sense. An unintentional agreement between what's available (industry) and what's proposed (design) can be averted with an umbrella technical specifications when financial model is being shaped up.
