📹 Our CEO, Stephanie Pfeifer OBE sat down with CFA UK as part of its ‘investing for Tomorrow’s Environment” series. The series raises awareness of investment professionals in climate action, highlighting the crucial role of private finance in unlocking solutions to climate challenges. 🌍 Stephanie reflects on the landmark moments of COP28 but explains that vital financial details are yet to be confirmed. The hope is that this year’s conference offers vital clarity, as world leaders seek to agree a New Collective Qualified Goal on Climate Finance for developing countries. This certainty can empower developing countries to set their own ambitious climate transition plans, leveraging public sector funds and attracting private investment. 💡 Our resource on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) explains the investor perspective: https://lnkd.in/eYn-_rt5 Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/edcpRN2n #Adaptation #Resilience #NCQG #ClimateFinance #COP29

Driving finance to the green infrastructure we need - to future-proof our economies, creating growth and energy security - doesn't come down to commitments. Capital will flow where it generates attractive risk-adjusted returns - fossil fuels continue to present such an opportunity over the short-term to the world’s financial institutions. Banks want to lend to commercially viable projects, irrespective of the seismic political shifts happening all around them. As the #WorldEconomicForum convenes this week in #Davos, I'm looking forward to sharing the work we've done at the Green Finance Institute to develop financial models to accelerate the green transition and how public private partnerships can be scaled to create investable opportunities globally. Read more in my Sustainable Views opinion piece below 👇
"Green finance cannot be viewed as a cyclical trend," writes Dr Rhian-Mari Thomas OBE chief executive of the Green Finance Institute and chair of the National Wealth Fund Taskforce in an op ed for Sustainable Views. "Leading financial institutions have quit the world’s largest climate coalition and boardrooms are increasingly turning their attention to the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, as though the need to redirect capital to achieve climate goals is last year’s fad," she says. "We are entering a new era of global politics and technological advancement with all its resulting unpredictability, but there are still prevailing certainties. The climate challenge remains existential, and the need for capital is significant." Read more below. #greenfinance #climatefinance #climatechange https://lnkd.in/eXjHVgkk

Moving from the era of commitment to action is imperative as the world continues to feel the effects of our changing climate. Green finance is much more than a cyclical trend. It is the route to energy security and economic growth. Our CEO, Rhian-Mari Thomas OBE, is at the #WorldEconomicForum in #Davos to develop global mobilisation strategies to address barriers to implementation at a time of seismic political shifts. Read her opinion piece with Sustainable Views below. https://lnkd.in/eruCB3bn

As I watched in shock this morning the tragic news unfolding of the torrential flash-flooding in southeastern Spain, and the devasting despair, damage and fatalities it has caused, the topic I will be speaking about on the upcoming Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) Climate Finance & Investment Summit is timely. I look forward to joining my fellow panellists Nicolette B., Andrew Sellick, and Olivia Kember to examine the dynamics of adaptation and resilience and explore a whole-of-system approach to this confronting issue.
Only one week to go until the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) Climate Finance & Investment Summit! We’re looking forward to connecting with key stakeholders and engaging in meaningful conversations. Join our panellist, Rena Pulido, Head of Sustainable Investment, Australia, as she explores how investors and policymakers can mobilise private capital for resilience and adaptation. Panel: "Investing in Resilience – The Next $100bn Opportunity." Paris-aligned investing: Active or passive? When it comes to the long-term challenge of addressing climate change, the algorithmic nature of passive funds’ investment processes can create the risk of over-simplification and short-termism. We think that an active approach is not only more effective, but essential for investors aiming to make real contributions towards achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Here’s why: https://ow.ly/srsC50SRSmg Capital at risk.
