Nursing may not have started as an autonomous profession, but it has grown, evolved, and expanded over the centuries. Passionate B2B Marketer | Always Learning | Advocate for Trust-Building Over Lead Generation Through Content
As someone who works at Connexall, I am always striving to stay informed about the latest developments and best practices in healthcare, particularly when it comes to the hospital floor and everything health IT related. Recently, I came across an announcement from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) that caught my attention. The AACN released guidance that emphasizes the crucial role of direct care nurses in all aspects of staffing. Among the various points highlighted in the guidance, one that particularly resonated with me was the idea that staffing plans should be designed to prioritize the health of the work environment. This point is closely tied to nurse recruitment and retention, as well as patient safety. It's no secret that the healthcare industry has been grappling with nurse shortages and high turnover rates for years. Nurses are the backbone of patient care, and when they are overworked, understaffed, or working in a stressful environment, it can have a direct impact on the quality of care they provide. By prioritizing the health of the work environment, healthcare organizations can create a more supportive and sustainable workplace for nurses. When nurses feel valued, supported, and have a manageable workload, they are more likely to stay in their positions long-term. This, in turn, leads to a more experienced and knowledgeable nursing staff, which is essential for providing high-quality patient care. Additionally, a healthy work environment can help reduce the risk of medical errors, as nurses are less likely to be fatigued or overwhelmed. #nurses #healthit

The structured and controlled learning environment in nursing schools cannot fully replicate the fast-paced, high-pressure scenarios of real-world healthcare settings. This gap creates a vulnerability in patient safety, as new nurses must quickly adapt to the demands of their roles while ensuring that their patients receive the highest standard of care. The ECRI report points to several key factors that contribute to this concern. Keep reading: https://hubs.la/Q02Ql3Mf0 #ASHRM24 #patientsafety #healthcaresafety #riskmanagement
