It's usually a 4 year cycle to bring to life a new product in the automotive industry. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter depending on things. In 1993 we were scratching our heads as we were behind validating air back crashworthiness (FMVSS air bags). The team could not "see" the kinematics well enough using standard development sled testing. Hmm. "Let's make the surface out of Lexan. That will give us a sense of motion and then corelate that to ROSETTE strains." I suggested." Bingo. It worked and in three tests and three steps we hit our goal. Never say never. "If you think you can, or cannot, you are right." Henry Ford one quibbled as he challenged his team to caste a V-8 block in a cheap, high-volume way. He was right, and they delivered. Stay positive, look for a creative way, and then sell your idea (internal to the team, external to others). Don't let negativity stop you. For months we carried this "novel" idea to other programs saving thousands of hours and millions in cost. Innovate. Go where others have fears. You'll both survive and find a path.

How ironic...we first remove all physical knobs serving as inputs to replace with Digital inputs, in the race to premiumise and make cars look technologically savvy...only to quickly introduce physical inputs to interact with Digital again for further premiumisation! 😂😂
