The job that you feel stuck in isn’t a mistake or a waste of time!
I was thinking about this the other day as I was creating my online course.
How do I have the skills to create something like that?
I haven’t been trained in creating online courses as such but there have been many experiences that I have had in my career that have allowed me to develop these skills.
For example….
Years ago I did a PTTLLS course (if you know, you know 😆). It’s basically a foundation level course in teaching.
I then went on years later to deliver employability training to long term unemployed people, alongside some really experienced trainers and then a few years after that, working in learning and development alongside an amazing trainer who showed me how to develop corporate training programmes, including all the slides and resources.
I then moved to Madrid to teach English and from day 1 was told to “teach” classrooms full of 30 plus secondary school kids! Terrifying but life defining and I learned a lot about creating lessons that are relevant and engaging.
I can tell you if those lessons weren’t engaging, you would know about it!! 😆
Years later, when I moved back to Madrid, I taught business English in companies so again my teaching and lesson planning skills were called upon!
When I did my Masters we had to create lessons for all kinds of audiences on career related stuff, thinking about what we wanted to cover and how we were going to do it.
I never realised how all of these experiences have allowed me to do the thing that I’m doing now!
In a few of those jobs I felt stuck and unsure of what the meaning and purpose was for me being there, but I stuck at them until I knew it was time to move on.
At times it’s easy to look back with regret and feel that you’ve wasted your time in jobs that you feel didn’t moved you forward.
But, I guarantee you that if you stop and think about it, many of those jobs have given you skills that have brought you to where you are now.
You may not be where you want to be, but once you work out what you want, you’ll look back on your career with fondness knowing it was always meant to be that way!
So, for all the times when I was running a job club session or CV workshop for a load of people who didn’t want to be there or when I was stood in front of a classroom full of teenagers who looked like they wanted to kill me, I didn’t realise the skills I was developing that would bring me right to where I am now!! 💪
Love the journey!!
Here’s a photo of me from way back when with the teachers at the first school I taught at in Madrid! I enjoyed it and learned A LOT! 😅
