The primary goal of stemming in blasting is to optimize the containment of energy released during the blasting process, a critical but often overlooked factor in the mining and quarrying industry. Here are the general steps to follow in designing stemming: 1. Determine the appropriate length of stemming using design guidelines, scaled depth of burial calculations, and site-specific geological considerations. 2. Select the right type and size of stemming material, typically ranging from 1/8th to 1/10th of the hole diameter. 3. Enhance stemming effectiveness by choosing suitable stemming devices like Varistem stemming plugs (visit www.varistem.com) or equivalent options. These devices vary in their features and capabilities, as illustrated in the accompanying video. 4. Place significant emphasis on rigorous QAQC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) practices during the charging process to ensure precise execution of the designed stemming length. Prioritizing these steps will undoubtedly result in improved blasting outcomes by enhancing energy containment, all at a fraction of the cost compared to the repercussions of inadequate stemming. #mining #miningindustry #blasting

After watching this video, I believe this issue isn’t too significant. In fact, problems like these are common and unavoidable during mining operations, particularly in the season of rainfall. The ditches are likely caused by inconsistent leveling during operations or because the material on the road cannot support the weight of the trucks. If rain is expected to stop in few days or weeks and the ramp will be consumed for production, the issue can be temporarily set aside to prioritize more pressing tasks. The water will eventually dry up, and conditions will return to normal. However, if this is a long-term or critical road, ramp repairs should be made by filling the low spots with durable materials capable of supporting the weight of truck, for instance granite.. Little edge of the road might be cut to allow the flow of water and prevent stagnancy. My little take.

In an underground mine, dewatering to the surface can be difficult. The required heads tend to be very high, and flow inevitably varies; pumps must be reliable and able to handle abrasive solids and sometimes acidic dirty water. Hevvy/Toyo’s HNH horizontal slurry pump has proven to be more than capable of meeting these requirements. In a dewatering application, a large diamond mine uses four Hevvy/Toyo horizontal pumps in two independent systems; these HNH pumps are equipped with our closed impeller B wet end, which is capable of reaching high heads. This arrangement accommodates the flow that can double during peak periods. The pumps feature a reverse overhead motor mount and have been running successfully since their installation. The pumps have been doing such an excellent job that when the mine was decommissioned, they were transferred to another one of the customer's mines to perform in a similar application.
