How many of my connections are paying for pet insurance but don’t have an active Life or Critical illness policy in place for themselves? As a society, generally, we tend to shy away from difficult topics such as illness and the loss of life when actually, we may be able to make more informed decisions about what contingencies we can put in place for ourselves and our families in the same way that we advocate learning about finances from a young age. A recent discussion with someone really made me question what I would do as a mother, on a part time wage in the event that I couldn’t work or sadly, left my family behind especially having seen first hand how many people have had life changing circumstances happen with or without policies in place. How would I cover mortgage payments? Bills? Childcare costs or be able to work and maintain a household on my own? Both myself and my partner now have active Life and Critical illness cover in place for the same amount we’d spend on a couple of takeaways for a month and the security of knowing if anything happened to either of us we’d be in a much better position if we had kept putting off that discussion or debating if it was really “worth it”. I wanted to share this because these conversations don’t often feel comfortable especially when death and illness are generally perceived as taboo subjects but equally, sharing knowledge and insight with sensitivity can open the door to people being able to make more informed choices about their futures whether or not that means exploring insurance/assurance and/or estate planning. #insurance #lifecover #criticalillnessinsurance

Human Resources Manager | Employee Relations | Workforce Planning and Optimization | Veteran Advocate | Manufacturing and Distribution Operations | Continuous Improvement
One of the best things my pops ever taught me--- "Better to have and not need, than to need and not have." Cliche---that IS true. And causes me to overpack like a champ sometimes, but you get the idea. Today...TODAY...I'm applying this adage to something no one wants to pay for until they need it. INSURANCE I'm NO sales person, just an HR bloke. So for my transitioning veteran community...here's some unsolicited advice: PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU SELECT WHEN IT COMES TO OPT-IN BENEFITS. What are these? Accidental Death and Dismemberment (self and family options) Voluntary Life Insurance (self additions to what is provided by the organization and for family) Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Dependent Care Accounts Long-term Care Insurance (self and/or family) Life Flight Insurance Pet Insurance (yup, pet insurance) LEVELS of coverage within medical, dental, and vision (typically ranging from higher cost/better coverage to low-cost/high deductible) 401k/Profit sharing options (if applicable) I literally see the gaps when they happen. And it is heart-wrenching to see. HR---bring in PROS to give REAL TIME ADVICE to your teams. Employees---SEEK information to make the best decisions for YOU and your budget. Needing it when it's too late is the worst. And yes, before you get stupid in the comments (thank you Elizabeth Hartman, ChFC®LOL), I know that insurance costs are beyond ridiculous for many. Hurricane insurance in Florida along the coast is an example that is prominent in the news. BUT Not having it can make the ridiculous cost of insurance look like Romper Room (only those my age will get THAT reference).
