The four largest European reinsurers – Munich Re, Swiss Re, Hannover Re, and SCOR – reported a very strong average return on equity of 15.5% in H1 2024, said a new report from Fitch Ratings, albeit slightly down from 20.5% in H1 2023. However, some saw stalls in fixed income returns. Traditional profitability metrics such as loss and expense ratios may change significantly under @International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 17, particularly for reinsurers, said rating agency AM Best. In a new report, “IFRS 17 - Economic View Adds Complexity to Reinsurers' Financial Statements”, released ahead of the Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous de Septembre in two weeks, the rating agency said the ongoing shift in financial reporting to #IFRS17 was now fully underway, which represented “a significant accounting change that has necessitated segmentation of performance analysis in the reinsurance market”. #insuranceinvestment #accounting #investmentstrategy #balancesheet #financialreporting #reportingstandards Read more here 👇

Aon report specifies global trends seen in Q2, which included updated #risk concerns for insurers including #cyber, #naturalcatastrophes and more. The report, which focused on underwriting pricings and renewals, said that key findings from the report for the UK market included softening market conditions.
