In recent days, Frontsight Media was able to view on the ground the devastation of Greater Asheville, North Carolina. From my first-hand witness to these events, I would like to recall some elements to your attention today. The devastation has completely gutted parts of the highway system in the region. When we say there are no roads in parts of this region, we mean there are literally no roads left in parts. For a great part, much of this has been repaired, but it has been a slow repair. 🌨️ In the days that immediately followed the disaster, snow season is coming. I have heard accounts of at least one child freezing to death. Cold weather supplies are some of the best things you can donate at this time, as winter in Appalachia is punishment even on a good year. This year will be suffering to say the least, and please bear that in mind when forwarding your support. ⛽ People need support in the realm of heaters, kerosene, generators, and the like. 🪚 👷 Volunteers are needed for chainsaw cutters, loaders/unloaders,stockers, and clean up crews. "Volunteers are dwindling," we have been hearing from local support groups. As the winter closes in on #WNC, the need for volunteers, donations and support will compound for reasons that are not immediate to the Flood, but are exacerbated by the fact that the Flood took place as late in the year as it did. (If anything, the region was fortunate, at least, that the Flood happened before the snows and not during.) 🐶 Fresh, certified cadaver dogs are also needed to help locate the missing loved ones whose remains are stilled trapped beneath the rubble and mud. 🎁 Locals of the region are coming together to Adopt a Family for Christmas and the Holidays for the region. It often takes a disaster to remind us of the strength in unity. Frontsight’s own Rachel Brooks was on the ground in Greater Asheville, North Carolina, capturing the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The tiny mountain towns of the Blue Ridge were no match for days of rain and overflowing rivers. Full story now on YouTube.
