click bait SMH headline aside, it’s just another wealthy suburban NIMBY story. With about 2,000 people @ an average age of 56 shows the disproportionate power these elites have, that a story about a small DA can make the front page of the SMH. The residents through hard work, luck, birth &/or excessive capital growth, live in a suburb of potential development sites worth millions, which attracts developers to leverage. However, the entitled mindset of residents & their political representatives, gives them no right to enforce visions for the suburb which support their interests/investment. But in saying that, it’s only natural… hell I’d be interested if people were trying to “destroy my suburb”… but they’re not! In pure economic terms, Developers are always trying to optimise use of resources for profit, & ensuring their investments align with market expectations. So building and trying to sell crap in Palm Beach would seem to be very counterproductive. 1 render showing a contemporary landscaped stepping form which appears to respond to its context & topography doesn’t really support the “destroy the suburb” narrative. #HappySunday
“But residents say the proposal breaks planning rules relating to heritage, height, landscaping and is not in the public interest.” And another NIMBY read for the weekend…
