The CITY CAREER LAB Job Market Index has been updated for March and hiring demand across UK financial services is completely FLAT at 0% after being up 4% month on month last time out. Other observations as follows: - Whilst it’s a benign set of results overall, it doesn’t tell the whole story with a great deal of variance even noted between employers within the same sub sector – pointing to a mixed bag of fortunes and hiring strategies at the company level. - The stand-out riser amongst the sub-sectors this month is Information Services which is up 10%, whilst Investment Management and Wealth & Private Banking are both up more modestly at 4%. - Meanwhile, both Fintech and Insurance posted falls in the number of jobs listed this month of -8% and -7% respectively. - Whilst there has still been a significant drop off in Year-on-Year demand with the volume of open roles down 29% from the same time last year, the gap is continuing to narrow from 32% last month. - To put a positive spin on things, we are 3 months in to 2024 and the index hasn't fallen YET after 17 months of month on month falls prior to that. As a reminder - the Job Market Index is intended to be the most accurate read on hiring demand in the UK financial services sector. Click on link in comments for more detail about month-on-month changes across the sub sectors, the methodology used and sub sector definitions.
