Summer time is full of fun in the sun, vacations, and afternoons by the pool. While all of these activities are fun to celebrate, we must remember to keep safety in mind. Summer time, obviously, requires being intentional with exposure to heat. Heat related illnesses were responsible for over 2,300 deaths in the US 2023. Continually make sure yourself and others are staying hydrated. Summer time is also the deadliest season relative to vehicle accidents. More people are on the road, less experienced drivers drive more often due to being out of school, and families are on road trips. Practice defensive driving, get plenty of rest, don't text and drive. Do your best to be a safe, aware driver, especially this time of year. Days at the pool or beach can flip from being a fun day to a catastrophe very quickly. The US averages 3,536 drownings in pools and non-boating related accidents per year. These accidents peak in the summer months. 20% of these accidents involve children 14 years old and younger. Remember to practice pool safety. Have a plan, constantly check on your kids, use floaties and life jackets, learn CPR. Summer is meant to be fun. Play it safe and follow safe practices to enjoy all that summer has to offer.

Training Recap: Mastering the Burn Tower 🔥 At Firehouse Training, our recent sessions last month took our team into the heart of fire operations—inside the burn tower. We focused on critical skills that are essential for any firefighter facing intense interior attack scenarios. Here’s what we covered: Hose Management in Stairwells: Navigating stairwells with a charged hose line requires precision and teamwork. We emphasized techniques for efficient hose advancement, ensuring smooth movement without kinks or entanglements. This allows for a quick and effective interior attack, essential when seconds count in a high-rise or multi-story building fire. Search and Rescue Tactics: In the thick smoke and zero-visibility conditions of the burn tower, our team honed their search and rescue skills. We practiced the art of maintaining orientation, communication, and line-of-sight with your crew. Knowing how to sweep rooms, use thermal imaging cameras, and manage potential victims is vital to bringing everyone out safely. Interior Firefighting: We drilled on the strategies for aggressive interior firefighting—focusing on effective ventilation, temperature reduction, and fire containment. Every firefighter was challenged to maintain situational awareness while pushing forward, ensuring that every move was deliberate and coordinated.
