We design for learning in all its many forms, which includes creating welcoming and engaging teaching spaces for CTE (Career & Technical education) tailored to specific career skills curriculum and hands-on learning preparing students for success in the workforce. In this article in Learning By Design Magazine, titled “Student Engagement Through Authentic Learning Experiences: How CTE Creates Real-World Learning Experiences for Students”, Integrus Senior Associate Molly Jacobs teams up with Diego Barrera, principal, WRA Architects, to explore how CTE serves as a beacon of innovation and opportunity in contemporary education. The current structure of CTE programs is distinguished from vocational models of the past by seamlessly integrating academic knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for a variety of career pathways with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-evolving workforce. This integrated approach not only enhances student engagement but also contributes to a high graduation rate. And postsecondary CTE programs extend opportunities for students to delve deeper into their chosen interests, offering specialized training and skill development. In turn, there has been an intentional shift to create engaging CTE education environments putting learning on display to elevate the experience and draw for a diverse range of students. SEEING IS BELIEVING IN #cte! Are we perpetuating old and outdated perceptions of career and technical education or are we viewing CTE through a modern lens? Perhaps we should encourage more students to pursue their passion in a CTE setting and realize it can be an AND option to college not an OR option to college. Think about how long it takes to get an appointment for your car or how far out you have to schedule your HVAC service and realize that we have not fallen off the skilled employee cliff yet. Add to that the increased outcomes we see in students in career and technical education and CTE is quickly becoming a leader in the pedagogical space as well. EVERY SINGLE EDUCATOR that I know that made the shift from traditional K12 to CTE has said the same thing within months of arriving: I'm never going back and I feel like I'm making a real difference here. It seems attributable to so many factors including: student agency in their learning, content taught by experienced content area experts, connections to business and industry, attainment of industry recognized credentials before graduation, and OPTIONS after graduating: work, college, additional training, or a combination of any of these. School should open doors for students and those with a CTE education have a competitive advantage in the workplace and several doors open for them after high school. Isn't this the goal?! It is time to #rethink how we talk about CTE and realize how it can #elevate an education rather than diminish one. #careerteched #cteworks #highschool #buckscounty #aMBITion #MBIT Middle Bucks Institute of Technology

Literacy expert, MTSS consultant, and founder supporting educators to use the science of reading to get better reading outcomes.
Is your MTSS getting results? MTSS is a critical tool in our quest to lay a strong foundation for literacy in our classrooms, but it's important to ask ourselves if we've remained true to MTSS, especially regarding Tier 1 instruction. Tier 1 should cause approximately 80% of students to reach grade-level reading goals, involving a curriculum that's comprehensive and differentiated for diverse learning needs. But what if strict adherence to a program overrides our ability to be responsive to student needs? Effective Tier 1 instruction should adapt to the varied abilities and individualities within our classrooms, including the needs of students with disabilities. Traditional whole-group instruction isn't always sufficient; small groups or targeted individual instruction can enhance engagement and understanding. The true spirit of MTSS involves its dynamic application, that calls us to be evaluative and responsive, using data to adapt our methods. For example, if more than 20% of students are below benchmark, this signals a need to rethink our Tier 1 strategies. As leaders, our role isn't just about implementing programs but ensuring that teachers can innovatively use tools within the MTSS framework to achieve effective teaching and learning outcomes. Let’s talk about it in the comments. Are we too rigid in our MTSS implementation? How can we better adapt our Tier 1 instruction to truly meet the needs of all students? #MTSS #EducationLeadership #Literacy #InclusiveEducation
