What do you do if you receive an inappropriate referral? Referrals. Part 3 of 4. Sarah and Sandra discuss inappropriate referrals in part 3 of this 4 part series... "So today we're going to talk about how you would manage an inappropriate referral from another clinician that came into your clinic. What process do you have in place? So I think the thing is to be thinking about here is if it comes in from another clinician, then obviously that's something that they think you can treat, otherwise they wouldn't be referring. So if it is inappropriate, I think you could use it as an opportunity to go back and explain to them why you feel it's inappropriate. But also it can be a learning piece because you could at the same time explain, whilst this one is inappropriate, these are the things that will be really appropriate to refer to you. But also you could use it as a discussion to say, well, you know, what can I refer to you if they are another health professional so that you can build a relationship and you can perhaps then start to move referrals between you. So, you know, see it as an opportunity, see it as learning and an opportunity, not as a lost case here. This actually could. Open up a whole load of new cases with a professional that perhaps you've not worked with before." #Physio #Osteopath #Chiroprator #Therapist #MSK

✏ Personal Statement Series(1): Reflections ✏ Are you struggling to write your personal statement for medical school? Do you feel completely overwhelmed, with no unique ideas? 💡 Here’s Part 1 on how to make your bland statement stand out 🌟: Show, don’t tell: This may seem very obvious, but many applicants make the mistake of just listing the experiences they have had. This doesn’t give ANY indication of what you know about the role of a doctor and is likely to get you rejected. Here’s one example: Applicant A: “I worked for 5 months at a care home. I worked with the elderly multiple times a week, which opened my eyes to the challenges they face. Also, I read a book…” Applicant B: “I had the privilege of working with the elderly at a care home. I was surprised by how multiple patients felt lonely and anxious without their families to take care of them. I took the time to listen carefully to their concerns and also try to cheer them up which made a real difference by the end. This demonstrated to me how important communication is when…” Which applicant would you pick? Even though Applicant A may mention more experiences, Applicant B is MORE likely to get an offer. Always keep this in mind: QUALITY > QUANTITY To sum up, MAKE SURE to demonstrate that you have seriously reflected on the skills required by a doctor and that you have developed these to some degree throughout your experiences. If this helped you, make sure to stay tuned for Part 2: Common Mistakes. #medicine #inspiration #career #essay

Physicians have always prided themselves on being good communicators. Still, surveys show that they often overestimate their ability to communicate effectively with their patients. A well-publicized study reports that the average doctor interrupts a patient after sixteen seconds during the interview process.1 So, what can physicians do to improve their communication skills and lower their risk of lawsuits? #physicians #doctors #physicianpractice #medicalpractice #conciergechoicephysicians https://lnkd.in/e-HGvsuu

Media matters Every one is an expert in his field. A journalist cannot be dentist and vice versa. If that happens there be chaos leading to wrong diagnosis and false news getting into the media and patients not having their dental problems solved. Each of the qualified people should stick to their field and not stick their necks out and get themselves guillotined. Yes, when people start complaining about something they should do their proper study and when they criticize others work, they should have also a ready-made solution in hand of what they would have done to rectify the so wrong and made it right, if they were in the same situation. Constructive criticism is appreciated not destructive one. But some people, who are know to knee deep in clinical healing of a certain order and also in healing of a holistic kind, unknowingly inflict harm on others. They may or may not have studied psychology and they know a bit about emotions, compassion and humility. They talk a lot about it in one-to-one interactions and preach about it on various forums. But alas when it comes to practicing the very core principles of having a consideration for others, all of that goes for a toss. You do not have to go through official channels to point out to the ‘wrong’ done by a certain person in his or her particular field and make an official complain to his or her boss when you know the person against whom the complaint has been made. The channels of communication are multi fold, take up a phone, message or fix a meeting, discuss with him or her the so called ‘wrong’, not complain to his or her colleagues.
