Here are some key updates from the India Budget 2024:
1. Infrastructure Development: The government has allocated INR 11 lakh crore for infrastructure, the highest ever, to support the Amritsar-Kolkata and Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridors, new industrial parks, and city development initiatives. Wish the daily commute also gets smoother
2. Healthcare: Significant focus on digital infrastructure and public health spending, with a potential tax holiday for medical tourism to boost the sector. On a lighter note, looks like we spend to spend a vacation in hospital to save some taxes 😊
3. Tax Relief: There are anticipated revisions in tax slabs to provide relief to the middle class, including increasing the basic exemption limit and standard deductions. Too little for the salaried class as always however still welcome
4. Renewable Energy: Major support for renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen initiatives, aiming to achieve 500 GW capacity by 2030. The government’s green goals might soon turn our rooftops into a mini power plant, more productive than our last Zoom call!!!
5. MSMEs Support: Enhanced support through credit guarantees, e-commerce export hubs, and easier access to funds to help MSMEs drive towards a USD 1 trillion export target by 2030. Sounds big, for small and medium enterprises.
6. Agriculture and Rural Development: Increased funding for micro-irrigation, rural infrastructure, and schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Gramin Sadak Yojana to support non-farm income and rural development. Rural India is in the process of turning into a model village from a Bollywood movie.
7. Housing and Real Estate: A notable increase in funding for affordable housing, with an 11% rise in capital expenditure expected to boost real estate growth and infrastructure development. Get ready for ‘Extreme Home Makeover – India edition’.
Ambani wedding made the stock markets more volatile than the Budget 2024 day. 😀
