At the recent All Party Parliamentary Ports and Maritime Group, important discussions were held in relation to the need to improve planning policy and process to support port decarbonisation 🚢 The imperative to improve planning policy and process for port decarbonisation extends beyond environmental concerns to encompass economic, social and technological dimensions. A holistic and forward-thinking approach to planning reform, coupled with targeted resourcing, is essential to unlock the full potential of ports as engines of sustainable trade and catalysts for coastal growth in the years to come.

The Red Sea #Crisis and #ShippingRoutes Comparing the deviations of #shipping routes between three major #container ports (#Shanghai, #Rotterdam, and #NewYork), the main connecting alternatives are limited. The Cape of Good Hope deviation adds 7 to 10 days on Asia-Europe routes (Shanghai to Rotterdam) and about 5 days to connect Shanghai and New York through the Cape Route instead of the Suez #Route (using 16 knots as the reference speed). Landbridge issues are also discussed. Follow the link for a more comprehensive discussion on the impacts on #maritime #supplychains and a high-quality version of the map. https://lnkd.in/dDkUbqFM

The collaboration between the Ports of 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞 marks a significant step towards advancing green and digital shipping practices in the maritime industry. Through discussions held on March 17, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Port of Southampton have affirmed their commitment to fostering sustainable maritime transport, in line with the UK-Singapore Green Economy Framework (UKSGEF). Recognizing the importance of cooperation among stakeholders, both ports underscored the need for joint efforts to drive decarbonization, digitalization, and growth within the maritime sector. Alastair Welch, ABP’s Regional Director for Southampton, emphasized the pivotal role of partnerships in driving tangible progress, citing the Port of Southampton's leading position as the UK’s primary shore-power provider. Chief Executive Teo Eng Dih of MPA expressed gratitude for the collaboration, highlighting the opportunity to address common challenges and exchange insights on maritime sustainability.
