The gender gap in AI has been a topic of discussion for years, but have we made real progress? Let's look at the cold, hard facts: In 2018, the World Economic Forum reported that only 22% of AI professionals worldwide were women. Our latest study at interface (formerly SNV), analyzing 2024 data on nearly 1.6 million AI professionals worldwide, shows this statistic hasn't budged an inch. This stagnation is occurring despite AI-Tech jobs growing nine times since 2015. The question isn't whether we can afford to address this imbalance – it's whether we can afford not to.
