May was a month of many milestones at Interim Physicians. In the past 30 days, we celebrated the anniversaries of five remarkable team members. 🎉 First up, physician recruiter Rick Costa completed his rookie season in May. In one year’s time, he has already become an integral part of our recruiting team. Next, senior staff accountant Jessica Klenke doubled Rick up with her second year at IP. Jessica’s department mate, staff accountant Bethany Julius, marked her seventh year at Interim. We thank you both for helping our dollars make sense! Billing manager Jennifer Phelps closed the books on an impressive 11 years with the Accounting team. She likens her job to putting together a detailed puzzle, and due to her meticulous nature, she ensures our billing and payment processes remain flawless for our providers and clients. Lastly, area vice president John Hoehne blew out a dozen candles in May. We’re beyond grateful for his dedication to building rewarding, long-term relationships with our facility clients. Please join us in congratulating these outstanding individuals on their milestones. Their diligence and passion exemplify the values that make Interim Physicians one of the best locum tenens agencies in the country! 🌟

1-Know Your Ideal Patients: Figure out who your dream patients are. Understand what services and type of clinic they would want. Build your clinic based on what your patients need, not the other way around. 2-Business Setup: Consult with a CPA (accountant) to figure out the best way to set up your business. Understand state requirements and tax considerations. Align your business setup with your overall goals. 3-Financial Planning: Create a plan for how you'll fund your medical practice. Write a business plan and do market research to predict your financial needs. Even if it's not the most exciting part, it's crucial for your success. 4-Credentialing Early: Start the credentialing/enrollment process as soon as possible. Don't set an opening date until you're fully enrolled. Avoid losing out on revenue by being patient and thorough in the credentialing process. 5-Build a Knowledgeable Team: Find someone experienced who can guide you through the process. Build a team that knows the ins and outs of the medical business. Having the right support will make your journey smoother and faster. In simpler terms, know your patients, set up your business smartly, plan your finances, get credentialed early, and surround yourself with people who know the ropes. This approach increases your chances of success in starting a profitable medical practice. #credentialing #privatepractice #medicalbilling #physicians #nursepractitioner

Navigating Your First Independent GP Contract as a Newly Fellowed Doctor 🎓💼 Congratulations to all AGPT registrars who have completed their training and are about to embark on a new chapter as independent GPs! 🙌 Transitioning from a salaried role to an independent contractor position can feel overwhelming, but with the right knowledge, you can confidently navigate your options. Here are a few key considerations when choosing the right practice for you: 💡 Understand Billing Practices: As an independent GP, you'll typically earn based on the percentage of your billings rather than a set salary. It’s crucial to understand how the practice bills (e.g., bulk-billing, mixed-billing, private) and how that aligns with your own professional preferences and values. Each model impacts your income and the kind of patient care you provide. 📊 Compare Percentages: You'll be offered a percentage of your billings (usually 60-70%). Be sure to clarify what that percentage includes—does it cover operational costs like nursing support, administration, or medical consumables? A higher percentage might seem appealing, but not if it comes with hidden costs that could impact your earnings or workload. 🔍 Explore Location & Community: Where you choose to practice is as important as how much you’ll earn. Ask yourself if you see yourself settling in that area long-term, and whether the patient demographic aligns with your interests. Rural and regional areas often come with additional incentives, so don’t discount them without looking at the full package. 💼 Seek Mentorship: Even as a Fellowed GP, ongoing mentorship is invaluable. Does the practice have experienced GPs or clinical leads who are open to offering guidance? A supportive environment can make all the difference in your continued professional growth. 💰 Understand Your Financial Obligations: As a contractor, you’ll now be responsible for your superannuation, taxes, and other financial planning. Get advice from a financial planner or accountant who specializes in medical professionals to make sure you're setting yourself up for success. With my extensive experience in assisting AGPT registrars in their transition to independent practice, I know how important it is to find a practice that suits both your professional and financial goals. This is an exciting time of professional freedom and opportunity! By taking the time to research and reflect on these key aspects, you can find a practice that aligns with your goals and allows you to thrive both clinically and financially. 🌟 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need guidance in finding the right fit—I'm here to help! 🤝 Call me 0478 659 150 or email vanessa.collins@dxcmedical.com.au #AGPT #GeneralPractice #MedicalCareer #GPRecruitment #Healthcare #IndependentGP #DoctorLife #FinancialIndependence #CareerGuidance

Founder & CEO I Medical Practice Consultant | Compliance Officer | Revenue Cycle Champion |Medical Billing SME
When I ask a prospective client if they are happy with their current billing situation, 90% of the time the answer is "No". So why is it that most physicians choose to stay with their current billing company or an unproductive employee despite losing money? Why do they choose to settle for mediocrity rather than making the switch? Here is my assessment: 1. Physician community is a very tight knit community and there is immense respect and trust among peers. Most physicians talk to each other about patient care and practice management. While it is vital for physicians to consult with their fellow doctors on patient care issues, It will serve them best to consult a professional for practice management and business related activities. Just like a physician is an expert in their field, a healthcare consultant is the subject matter expert in the areas of medical billing, and other operational activities. A reputable consultant can assist a physician establish proper infrastructure to setup a new practice or streamline processes in a running practice. 2. Any successful business requires return on investment (ROI). A medical practice is a business and needs to thrive in order to serve the patient community at the highest level. Problems related to employees, billing and finances can be a cost drain for the practice and take the attention of the physician owner away from his or her first love, which is taking care of patients. I have witnessed physicians open their private practice not realizing that patient care is just 20% of their job, it is all the administrative responsibilities that take up 80% of running a practice. An ill-prepared person will most likely get overwhelmed and fold their practice in under three years due to burnout and added cost and responsibility. 3. Prevention is better than reaction. No one knows this better than a physician. Physicians preach prevention to their patients every day. They advise them to eat right, exercise, take their medication and lead a lifestyle that will keep them healthy and out of the hospital; then why do these same physicians run their practice with bandages applied all over? The answer is not that simple but it is rooted in a behavior we are all familiar with, "change is hard", "fear of the unknown", and "why fix it if it ain't broken"? While change is hard, it is the only constant. When one thing doesn't work, we must try another to see the benefits. Those who live in fear and always play it safe may not realize that there is something better out there that will serve their need more efficiently. Greater risks do lead to greater rewards! and finally, just because something is not broken doesn't mean it's intact. Sometimes internal cracks cause more damage and deterioration than an outright broken piece.
