Discover Peshtemal: The Traditional Fabric with a Modern Twist Peshtemal, a gem of Turkish culture, is more than just a fabric; it's a testament to history and versatility. Originating from the traditional Ottoman hamams (bathhouses), Peshtemal towels have been a staple of Turkish bathing culture for centuries. Lightweight, highly absorbent, and fast-drying, these towels were the perfect companion in the steamy world of the hamam. But what exactly is Peshtemal? It's a flat-woven cloth, traditionally made from cotton, known for its unique combination of durability and softness. Over time, the peshtemal has evolved from its hamam roots to become a multifunctional textile, embraced in homes and beaches across the globe. Fun Fact: In the Ottoman era, the peshtemal was more than just a towel; it was a symbol of social status. The intricate designs and quality of the peshtemal one carried into the hamam could speak volumes about their rank and wealth. Today, this historic fabric is experiencing a global renaissance. With its minimalist aesthetic, it aligns perfectly with modern values of sustainability and simplicity. Peshtemals are eco-friendly, consuming less water and detergent than typical terry towels. Their lightweight nature not only makes them perfect for travel but also reduces their carbon footprint during shipping. At FAIR TO GOOD, we've taken this incredible heritage and given it a new purpose. By upcycling damaged peshtemals and other textile remnants, we're crafting unique, sustainable products that carry the legacy of Turkish craftsmanship into the future. Each of our creations is a blend of tradition and innovation, weaving a story of cultural richness and ethical production. Join us in celebrating the journey of peshtemal – from the historic hamams of Turkey to the sustainable future of textiles.

Boats with sails made from recycled materials, cars with interiors made from discarded elements... The sustainability of materials goes beyond the fashion industry. Opting for green materials must become the norm, and more and more sectors are embracing this green revolution. Vegetable tanned leather with tannins, in particular, stands out as an emblematic example of an ethical and sustainable product: made from a waste and processed with natural elements, it not only extends the life span of your shoes, your sofa or your backpack, but also represents a concrete commitment to a more responsible future. Besides offering superior quality and durability, each piece made from tannin-tanned leather tells a story of craftsmanship and respect for the environment, while maintaining the appeal of a product that evolves and improves with time. The LIFE I'M TAN project is at the forefront of this transformation. Our modified natural tannins not only help decrease environmental impact, they also ensure that each product is made with respect for natural resources and the people who create it. Imagine being able to choose products that not only meet your aesthetic and functional needs, but that are also good for the planet. A few years ago we started a luxury project in Mexico that required we bring in a top quality mattress model that could be used for kids rooms and for spare bedrooms. Since then we have had such incredible success with this model that it has been used in projects like Armani Residences and One Thousand Museum and many more. Not just for the kids rooms but also for the master bedrooms. The incredible thing about the Thermovisco mattress is it's sustainable story. There are so many models in the market that use a sustainable outer material or ticking or a very natural outer material but then the inner core is as toxic as can be. Similar to these bamboo pillows sold in the mall. Sadly consumers are easily fooled. The Thermovisco uses an outer ticking made with Ecolife which is sourced by a program we have in Europe which contracts fisherman to clean the oceans. Part of what they bring back is repurposed and used to create a very soft and breathable material called Ecolife. This is a double sided mattress so the other side uses Bamboo and the core is made with a Soy Based Memory Foam with more than 3 times more Natural Component than our closest competitor in the US. To put it in perspective, the vast majority of the memory foam mattresses in the US use a petroleum derivative based memory foam which is filled with toxins and chemicals. A very few number use a natural component but in most cases they only use a very small percentage of natural component. We are close to 50% and our models are 100% Oeko Tex certified to the highest level which is the gold standard in our industry. Long before 'sustainability' became a global movement, Indian artisans were practising it as a way of life. Their deep connection with nature has inspired them to craft exquisite handicrafts using renewable materials and techniques that minimise waste, allowing art and the environment to coexist harmoniously. However, we're taking sustainability a step further by adopting innovative techniques that reduce our environmental impact. One such initiative is our shift towards eco-friendly packaging solutions. Traditional handicraft packaging often relied on plastic and non-biodegradable materials. But we've partnered with organizations that create sustainable packaging from recycled materials. Our stylish, eco-friendly packaging not only boasts biodegradable and compostable properties but also ensures that our products reach you in an aesthetically pleasing yet environmentally conscious manner. We're also exploring ways to incorporate eco-dyes and natural pigments derived from plant sources like turmeric and indigo. Incorporating non-toxic dyes aligns with our mission of environmental conservation, furthering our efforts and impact to create sustainable products. By fusing time-honoured craftsmanship with modern eco-innovations, we aim to create a sustainable future for Indian handicrafts. #Virasat #Innovation #Design #Culture #Handicrafts #Artisans #SocialEntreprenurship #Sustainability #Heritage #Legacy

🌱 When it comes to sustainable carpets, both 𝗷𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗽 stand out for their eco-friendliness and natural appeal. However, there is often confusion about the differences between jute and hemp carpets, leading to uncertainty when making the choice. While both are made from natural fibers, each offers unique qualities that suit different preferences and needs. Here is a 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 to help you distinguish : 🌾 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹: Jute has a softer and more pliable feel, making it perfect for spaces where comfort underfoot is a priority. If you are looking for warm colors and a soft texture, then jute is your choice. Hemp, while initially coarser, softens over time and offers a more rustic yet comfortable feel as it is used 🔗𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵: Both materials are durable, hemp is tough and resistant to wear and tear, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas. Jute is durable too but may wear down faster in more active spaces.; 💧𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 Jute is more sensitive to moisture, making it ideal for dry, low-humidity environments. Hemp, naturally resists moisture, mold, and mildew, making it suitable for humid or potentially damp areas.; 🌍 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Both materials are sustainable, with their own unique advantages. Hemp requires less water, fewer pesticides, and regenerates the soil as it grows. Jute is eco-friendly and biodegradable and thrives best in specific, more restricted climates.; Both jute and hemp have a similar golden hue that provides a warm, rustic aesthetic.
