Some Things You Can't Prepare For... Like The Unknowable. In downhill skiing, you can see the obstacles and make sure to avoid them. If you don’t, the outcomes can be, shall we say, not good. But what about before we actually ski? Who would think an obstacle would be spending the night on a lift? Recently, a skier got left on a lift overnight; luckily, it was a gondola and she had some protection. It's a worry that would have never crossed my mind! In life, as in skiing, there are obstacles we can see from the top of the mountain and others that surprise us. How we prepare for the unknowable is the key. Buying, selling, and owning homes can be like a downhill run. Flawless and exhilarating or being stuck in a lift overnight. When friends need a real estate agent with genuine curiosity and care to prepare for the unknown, connect us. I’ll prepare them for a flawless run at real estate, and you can rest assured - they’ll never get left in a lift. Warm Regards, Cindy p.s. Buyers and sellers need answers. Especially now. Send friends to an agent with the right questions. Together, we’ll replace fear with faith that this move is the right move.

Founder & CEO of KYield. Pioneer in Artificial Intelligence, Data Physics and Knowledge Engineering.
Nice focus on the ski industry, featuring Taos Ski Valley, Inc. and quoting David Norden, CEO (gift link). TSV was aquired by Louis Bacon about a decade ago after skiing there for years and owning a vacation home and property. We first visited Taos Ski Valley in 1985 after hearing about it for 5 years. A couple of good friends from Rainier spent their winters working in TSV and summers at Rainier. TSV was (and still is) unique in that it was one of the world class ski areas in the Rockies founded in the post WWII era by Europeans. Ernie Blake (passed away in 1989) and his wife Rhoda founded Taos Ski Valley in 1955. Ernie grew up in Switzerland and became an intelligence officer for the U.S. during WWII (Blake was his code name he later adopted). It's a great story and part of the fascinating history of the post war U.S. ski industry -- very small group initially, many of whom were friends (good reads on history available). The Blakes founded TSV in 1955 in a bootstrapped manner, and by the mid 60s it was known for some of the best skiing and snow in the world. The family presumably made improvements with profit and debt as they maintained ownership. TSV seemed to thrive as a world class ski area through the 1980s, but as we visited over the years it became apparent TSV needed a capital infusion to remain competitive, and perhaps even open. The village is incorporated and tiny -- it was obviously operating on fumes. The town of Taos at the base of the mountains also badly needed investment. Meanwhile, large investments were being made in competing destinations, particularly to the north in CO. Vail Resorts, for example, went public in 1997 and now owns and operates 40 mountain resorts in four countries. This scenario is not unusual in business generally or resorts specifically. From my understanding, the Blake family sought out Bacon as a potential buyer because he was a loyal fan, had a strong reputation as a passionate steward for conservation, and had the financial ability to upgrade the mountain. TSV is our favorite getaway in NM, and one of our favs anywhere. We've visited regularly since '85. If I had the financial ability, I would have done something quite similar. Overall, I think they've done a great job. My guess is they've invested about $250 million to date--Blake hotel, ice rink, condos, significant landscaping and trail work, new lifts, and installed infrastructure for RE. Although the village needs a small critical mass to be sustainable, its growth is limited as it's surrounded by USFS and Wheeler Peak Wilderness (highest peak in NM). To answer the question of the reporter--investment must come from somewhere or resorts and towns eventually die. Locals just weren't getting it done, and TSV was slowly dying. TSV is now on a sustainable trajectory--economically and environmentally. https://lnkd.in/g-RTAZZB

Calling all Mass Timber & Running / Cycling / Skiing / Hiking Enthusiasts! One of the things that I love to do is create a place of community, where like-minded folks can meet new people, create new friends, share experiences, help others, celebrate wins, offer support after downturns, and just create a better place to live. If you've followed me for any amount of time, you're probably aware of my love of running. Really what I love is running the trails and the mountains, but I also love gravel biking on Vermont's dirt roads, I love hiking with my family, and just being outside and in the woods any chance I can get. I use the fitness app Strava to keep track of my daily runs/bike rides, etc. and recently created a group for fellow Mass Timber enthusiasts. So I'm happy to invite any who are interested to join the... Mass Timber Running Club Anyone is welcome to join. Check it out below and let me know if you have any questions on how to use it. https://lnkd.in/dCmBCaAG PS. this picture is from the inaugural group run at the 2023 International Mass Timber Conference. Have no doubt that there will be a 2024 group run (or 2?) and those details will be posted on this Strava group. #masstimber #trailrunning #ultramarathon #gravelbike #architecture #structuralengineering #construction #realestate
