When you're writing about wine, there are all sorts of vital questions that need to be taken into account, like: Is this of interest to my readers? Why is it interesting right now? And why am I the right person to write this? These questions bring a lot of discipline and clarity to the story you are trying to tell. Watch Beverley Blanning MW Master of Wine, Writer, Educator, and Presenter in conversation with Sid Patel, Founder and CEO of Beverage Trade Network, about composing an engaging wine story for your readers. #londoncompetitions #london #uk

“For a wine writer, the two things that matter most are people and place. People and place are bookends, and the rich core between them is a wine’s story. A wine’s story can only exist in the context of a culture” -Karen MacNeil A powerful read- take a moment and read this today.

And now for something completely different from me! In what one of my sons has described as "quite the late-career pivot", I find myself with a new persona as published author. I've written a food memoirish story about food - the cooking and sharing of it. Published by the delightful people at #CubaPress. To be launched on 14 November this year, and can now be ordered here https://lnkd.in/g9ZCwcBb #foodmemoir #foodmemoirs

A fantastic piece from The Fence about my OAD compatriot, and possibly the most well eaten person on earth; Mr Andy Hayler. The core discussion highlights the difference between food ‘writing’ and bonafide reviewing. One is largely entertainment/opinion based, often backed up with very little advanced experience, usually driven by unacknowledged free meals and self-PR. The other is fact/accuracy based, shying away from subjective views or ego driven copy, in favour of trueness and accuracy of customer experience, with the bill being settled or clearly acknowledged when it wasn’t. This ethos carries over into our reviewing/writing style at Restaurants of Manchester; primarily driven by facts and global experience, not entertainment or being click/ad driven. Words which our 2 million unique readers can trust as being accurate and educated, to help guide them in selecting their own great personal experiences. It’s well worth spending 10 mins on for anyone with an interest in food media. https://lnkd.in/ePHK-4Vc #thefence #andyhayler #oadtop100
