Another day, another fascinating panel discussion, this time alongside Elena Stylianou, Diana Markaki - Bartholdi, Souzana Klimentidi and Iakovos Michalitsis at Fortune Greece’s Most Powerful Women Summit 2024 🙏 We discussed the boardroom of the future which, admittedly, will have to look a lot different from the boardroom of today, in order to be effective and equipped to deal with a host of new challenges. Avoiding groupthink, focusing on purpose and achieving real, as opposed to tick-the-box, diversity will be key.

CILEx Civil, Employment & Commercial Litigation Lawyer & Legal Advocate (Law firm owner)I International Civil & Commercial Mediator I NED Board Member CRL Ltd-(Own Views unless otherwise stated)
As we look to the future of endless possibilities for women on International Women's Day we must also acknowledge the progress of women before us and how this has and will continue to influence our drive for equality and independence. My bucket list includes many things for me to achieve and experience, many have been crossed off; leaving some yet to get around to, and learning to fly is one of them (one day!). I have chosen to mark International Women's Day going back through history and came across the achievement of Jerrie Mock....Read on..... Just short (by days) of 60 years ago Jerrie Mock set off from Columbus on a flight around the world on 19 March 1964. Although it is reported that Jerrie was not intentionally competing against Joan Merriam Smith who had set off from San Francisco two days earlier, a competition developed between them as the media followed progress of their flights. Incidentally, Joan's flight path was the same as previously been attempted by Amelia Earhart who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean some 32 years earlier, and had achieved many firsts, but sadly Amelia disappeared in flight in 1937. Jerrie won the race and became the first woman to fly solo around the world. Today, with all the possibilities out there for the taking today, we may not view Jerrie's achievement as significant without we understand and appreciate that in the sixties, women were oppressed, and dominated much worse than today, in a man's world. I can only imagine how exhilarating such an achievement must have been during those times and how our imagination can also take us (Women) forward in challenging and achieving our aspirations - anything is possible! #internationalwomensday

🌺 As we commemorate International Women's Day, let's reminisce about a powerful moment during last year's edition of the GTHA Transportation Technology Training Summit 'ITS Moving The Needle Forward', where Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Johanna (Yanna) Tzanidaki, together with esteemed women executives illuminated the 'Women in ITS' discussion. #IWD2024 The event marked the inception of ITS Canada's forum recognising women in Intelligent Transportation Systems. Dr. Tzanidaki, together with Mara Bullock (WSP in Canada); Barbara Gray (City of Toronto Transportation Services); Janneke van der Zee (she-her) (ITS Canada); Julie Rice (City of Toronto Transportation Services, shared their insights on the importance of empowering women in the ITS industry during this session. In the words of Dr Tzanidaki, "Not many women chose to work in transport and ITS and although we have today more women than ever in the field, it is still dominated by men. As a panellist in Europe, the US and Canada on the topic of 'Women in ITS', I always share my personal story of how I started working in this field and what challenges I and most of the women I know in ITS had to overcome in their careers. All stories have a common message: women have to work twice as hard and they always manage to succeed. ITS is a field that women are able to bring a different perspective when it comes to meaningful change and they excel in it!" 🙌 As we celebrate the achievements and resilience of women worldwide on International Women's Day, let's cherish and amplify these voices that contribute to shaping a more inclusive future. #InspireInclusion #WomenInITS #TalkingITS

The influence of women is an intricate pattern of resilience 💪 and grace 🌸. As the sun 🌞 sets on another International Women’s Day, we reflect not on the singular achievements of women but on their collective spirit that has, time and again, been the bedrock of civilizations 🏛. Consider the silent symphony 🎶 of progress: for every well-known heroine in our textbooks 📚, thousands of unnamed women have been the architects of change in the shadows, their contributions often whispered in the footnotes of history. These are the women who, through the sheer force of will, have shaped the destiny of nations 🌍. From the fields of science 🔬 to the canvases of art 🎨, from the halls of academia 🏫 to the expanses of space 🚀, women have not only participated but have led and innovated. As we stand today, the baton 🏃♀️ has been passed through generations, with women achieving unprecedented milestones, yet the race is far from over. The fabric of equality 🏳️🌈 is still being woven, thread by thread, as we strive for a world where every woman’s potential can be fully realized. This International Women’s Day, let us honor not just the women in the spotlight but also those in the shadows, for every woman is a story of endurance, a testament to the strength 💪 that has, and will continue to, drive humanity forward. In their silent resolve, we find the most profound narrative of progress, a legacy not just to be celebrated 🎉, but to be continued. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenEmpowerment #WomenInHistory #Feminism #WomenInSTEM #WomenInArts #WomenInAcademia #WomenInLeadership #WomenInScience #WomenInnovation #GenderEquality #EmpowerWomen #StrongWomen #WomenInspiringWomen #CelebrateWomen #ContinueTheLegacy

We today presented and discussed first findings of our study on representation of women in leadership positions in government digitalization Germany at a virtual event organized by the NExT e. V. women network (women@NExT). The study is a collaboration of the Hertie School Centre for Digital Governance and Deloitte Deutschland and over the last year we analysed 74 organization charts of federal and state ministries, coded 5209 leadership positions in these ministries and conducted 24 interviews mostly with female leaders of government digitalization. The findings show that digitalization is already well anchored in German public administration with 11.8% of all leadership positions in the analysed federal and state ministries having a focus on digitalization. The share of women in these leadership positions is 38.5% at federal government level and only 27.4% at state government level and clearly beyond equality. Especially the interviews provided interesting insights into current challenges of gender equity but also promising measures to move towards a better representation of women in government digitalization leaderships. Very best thanks to Ann Cathrin Riedel and Rebecca Möbius and all the participants for the interesting questions and discussions. Interested to learn more about these findings and our study? Please join our evening and network event (German language) on June 5th at the Hertie School. International Women's Day is here. A day where we appreciate the achievements of all of the women in the world. Socially, Economically, Culturally, Politically the list goes on. I have a particular appreciation for the women who came in the generations before me and shaped certain industries to be much more accessible for young women like me today. The pharmaceutical industry has been transformed completely thanks to women like Emma Walmsley, CEO of GSK. Emma is the only female CEO in the top 10 pharma companies globally. Women now account for 65% of the workforce in the Pharmaceutical Industry, but only 25% of those are in leadership teams. The pharma industry is going in the right direction, but organisations need to put diversity at the heart of their agendas. This day is important, but it shouldn’t be just today that we notice that women in leadership roles are not in proportion to our presence in these companies. I know I am not alone in my drive to become a 'C-suite' member one day. But this can't happen without the support of organisations driving this diversity. Don’t forget, every day is International Women's Day if you let it 😁 #internationalwomensday2024 #pharma #womeninpharma
