82 years ago today, Weegee made this image of the hottest day of the year in NYC. Playing in a fire hydrant is often a coming of age moment in NYC—join us on July 25, 7 PM, for our next edition of ICP PhotoSLAM, to tell your own coming of age story through images! During this fast-paced, open mic event, photographers, the ICP community, and audience members are invited to compete in a live story telling competition, driven by photographs. Hosted by Idris Talib Solomon. The $5 tickets also include museum admission: https://lnkd.in/eYgHUCyA. Reingold's solo exhibition, UNDER MY SKIN, will take place TOMORROW from 6 to 8. Babs Reingold incorporates a variety of mixed media materials into her work. Her piece titled, “Hair Nest” includes one year of her hair loss, a seven-foot drawing of a tree, a fabricated 3-D branch, and a field of stones. Other works are constructed of glass, wax, silk, and organza or paper. Environmental catastrophes such as Katrina, and speakers like Jared Diamond’s lecture on Easter Island, inspired Reingold to create large scale installations and three-dimensional artworks describing themes of beauty, poverty and the environment. Reingold often uses hair as a signature element in her work for its intrinsic links to DNA and its enduring symbolism. Many works offer a frustrating lack of solutions and an internal frustration bringing to the fore Reingold’s question: At what point do we realize our self-destruction and act?
