In the past years, challenges to postal companies have accelerated, but also growth opportunities emerged. We believe that the fundamentals have not change. Combined mail and parcel business remains the backbone of post, and it creates value if managed well. Therefore, making mail and parcel business viable is a non-negotiable focus point, and priority over more out-of-the-box innovation. In our estimates, postal operators still have up to 30% higher parcel unit cost compared to pure-parcel companies. In 5 or 10 years, when parcels will surpass mail in the revenue mix, this cost disadvantage will no longer be offset by mail synergies and scale benefits. Posts must develop now a new operating model and capabilities to equal or surpass the private parcel companies McKinsey & Company's latest article reflect on how postal companies can adapt, build a parcel-first and flexible operating model. Reviving Trust in Postal Services with Innovation Sri Lanka’s postal service has a rich history, with iconic places like the Nuwara Eliya Post Office still showcasing equipment from the British era. Back then, postal services were a symbol of reliability, run by loyal and dedicated people using the best tools of the time. The trust in parcel delivery was strong, and communities relied on it with confidence. Fast forward to today, and in many South Asian countries, including Sri Lanka, that trust has eroded. Parcel deliveries often feel unreliable, with concerns about safety and delays. At Logistics Blocks, we’re working to bring that loyalty and trust back, not just in Sri Lanka but worldwide. With cutting-edge innovations like real-time tracking, secure delivery systems, and enhanced monitoring, we aim to restore faith in postal services and make parcel delivery trustworthy again. It’s time to modernize logistics while keeping the values that built trust in the first place. This version highlights both the historical importance of Sri Lanka’s postal service and the role of your company in improving trust in modern logistics.

The next phase of the U.S. Postal Service's overhaul could have a wide-ranging impact for the shipping partners that play a vital role in the parcel delivery ecosystem. The agency wants consolidators to inject packages further upstream in its network, while potentially scrapping the valuable discounts tied to inducting packages at delivery units closest to the destination address, sources tell me about these early conversations. If you aren't familiar with the arrangements between the Postal Service and workshare partners, you might say, "So what?" Well, there's a reason my network has been chatting about this nonstop over the past week. If you induct volume into the USPS network earlier, there's greater exposure to potential delays that have become prevalent amid a shaky rollout of the agency's "Delivering for America" overhaul. And if discounts tied to delivery unit induction go away, what's stopping consolidators from raising prices for their customers? Those I spoke with generally agree that the Postal Service wants to forge direct partnerships with shippers while making more efficient use of its network assets. But an unintended consequence could be that if these changes happen, consolidators will flock to other carriers focusing on lightweight, low-cost parcels (hello regionals!) and drain volume from the Postal Service's network. In other words, a significant market shift. I'm certain there's more to unearth from these conversations than what my initial story covered. So, I'm calling on my network for help as I continue following this storyline: What have you heard about the Postal Service's plans for consolidators? Feel free to DM me here, or email me at mgarland@industrydive.com. https://lnkd.in/eGVp7Gus #supplychain #parcel #delivery

As Max Garland illustrates in this post, UPS is set to raise rates and delivery area surcharges for its SurePost services on Jan. 13, marking a significant increase compared to previous years. The adjustments come amidst heightened demand and evolving dynamics at the Postal Service, a key partner for UPS. This development underscores the importance of reviewing and potentially renegotiating parcel agreements while considering a diversified carrier portfolio. 🌟 Did You Know? 🌟 The Postal Regulatory Commission is reviewing a proposed rule by the United States Postal Service to enhance the cost model for Parcel Select and Parcel Return Service (PRS). 🚚📦 Key Highlights: 📍 Introduction of a non-presort machinable mail flow for DHub-entered packages. 📍 New cost estimates for non-presort machinable Parcel Select Heavy Weight (PSHW) and Light Weight (PSLW). 📍 Additional costs include hub container movement, sortation, and processing. 📍 No impact on FY 2023 costs due to unchanged mail processing unit costs. These updates aim to simplify the Parcel Select price structure while maintaining efficiency in operations. 🛠️💼 #ParcelShipping #PostalService #RegulatoryUpdates #CostModel #LogisticsInnovation #TopicLakeInsights
