"In 100 [individuals with #MultipleSclerosis], the rate of amyloid-β plasma biomarker positivity was approximately half the rate in 300 non-MS controls matched on age, sex, apolipoprotein E proteotype, and cognitive status. Interestingly, most MS patients who did have amyloid-β pathology had features atypical for MS at diagnosis. "We showed that the classification of [#OpticNeuritis] is highly dependent on #color vision testing, and a skilled evaluation of the relative afferent #PupillaryReflex. When we amended the 2022 [international consensus criteria for optic neuritis] ICON, we could slightly improve its performance. Therefore, we suggest a potential addendum to the 2022 ICON: patients with painful monocular vision loss in whom RAPD or dyschromatopsia were not documented at presentation, be included as ON if two additional diagnostic paraclinical criteria with one being MRI optic nerve abnormalities are present."

"It’s heartbreaking to have this conversation and to say, 'We want to get you some help,' and to have the person say, 'I know it’s not an ideal relationship, but I am terrified [that you’ll] do something that takes my caregiver away. What am I going to do? "Dr. Michael Levin and team discovered a protein called ‘heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1’ or ‘hnRNP A1’ that does not function properly in [#MultipleSclerosis]. Malfunction of hnRNP A1 causes nerve fibre damage contributing to #neurodegeneration, and in turn, disability in people with MS. In this study, the researchers will synthesize and screen for small molecule treatments that can rescue the function of hnRNP A1 and reduce nerve fibre damage in animal models of progressive MS."
