Unlocking 24/7 solar power! 🌞🔥 This innovative study explores a game-changing idea - how harnessing waste heat from petroleum gas can supercharge solar chimney efficiency. Simulations show that by combining these energy sources, electricity can be generated around the clock, not just during daylight hours. The research tested various designs, and the circular two-ring burner design stands out, boosting electric power production to 121.1 kW! With a thermal efficiency of 0.523%, this approach could revolutionize renewable energy systems by tapping into unused industrial heat. Optical properties enhancement of #thermal energy media for consistently high solar absorptivity In this study, the focus was on examining the optical properties of black particles for their use in advanced #CSP systems. These systems, known as 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝟯 𝗖𝗦𝗣, offer advantages like higher efficiency, lower costs, and environmental benefits. Despite challenges like high costs and environmental concerns with current particles, the black particles showed promise with exceptional optical properties and low cost. Addressing limitations and further developing these particles could be key to achieving the low Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) targeted for Gen3 CSP systems, signaling their importance in advancing renewable energy technologies. https://lnkd.in/d-_mi2iD #solar #concentrated

The make-up of the power system as we transition to high levels of renewable energy generation requires clever solutions, particularly in energy storage, which will bring crucial reliability to the grid. Pumped hydro and lithium batteries are excellent, established technologies. But what else could we introduce to meet demand? Our report, The future of long duration energy storage: keeping the lights on in a carbon constrained world, explores three alternative long duration energy storage technology families that can complement and strengthen existing technologies and address the missing middle that lies between the short and seasonal energy storage spectrum: Mechanical storage, e.g. compressed air Electrochemical storage, e.g. redox and hybrid flow batteries Thermal storage, e.g. concentrated solar power Our policy experts Christiaan Zuur and Ana Spataru, Dr launched their report just now at the Australian Large-Scale Solar and Storage Summit (ALSSSS) in Queensland. We have been spoiled for reading material in the last week about where the electricity market is and where it is going. Some big themes: renewables will continue to expand at a mind-blowing pace, electrification (switching the heat pumps, EVs, electrified industrial process heat) is going too slowly or has stagnated, demand flexibility faces too many barriers but they are surmountable, geothermal looks primed to take off in Europe and so, so much more in these docs. At the 1EnergyWorld 2024 Global Energy Conference, an innovative session titled "Revolutionizing Energy in the US with Concentrated Solar Thermal" is set to capture the attention of energy professionals. This insightful discussion, led by Steve Anglin, Founder and CEO of Utopio, is scheduled for April 25 from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm US ET. Steve Anglin, a pioneer in renewable energy technologies, will share his expertise on concentrated solar thermal (CST) technology and its potential to transform the energy landscape in the United States. CST technology, which utilizes mirrors or lenses to concentrate a large area of sunlight onto a small area, generating heat that can then be used to produce power, represents a significant advancement in harnessing solar energy more efficiently and at a larger scale. During this session, Anglin will explore the latest advancements in CST, discuss the operational efficiencies, and address the challenges and solutions in deploying this technology. He will highlight how CST can provide reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solutions, particularly in sun-rich areas of the U.S. The discussion will also cover the strategic importance of integrating CST within the broader U.S. energy matrix, its role in reducing carbon emissions, and the potential economic benefits of widespread adoption. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how concentrated solar thermal technology can play a pivotal role in achieving energy independence and sustainability goals, making it a must-attend session for those involved in energy planning, policy making, and innovation. #ConcentratedSolarThermal #RenewableEnergy #EnergyIndependence #SustainableFuture

In recent years, the focus on environmental and energy challenges, particularly the rapid pace of climate change and the decline of natural systems, has intensified. The shift towards renewable energy sources like wind, hydro, and solar power presents a promising opportunity to benefit both the environment and the economy. One area of growing interest is solar thermal electricity systems (STES), also known as concentrated solar power (CSP). This technology harnesses sunlight to produce high-energy heat, which can then be used to power steam turbines for electricity generation or in various industrial applications. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #EnvironmentalSustainability _ REVIEW PAPER _LALIT SINGH PARMAR _ IEEE_A Study of Performance and Analysis CSP Renewable based on Solar Tower Power Plant

Weekly power simulation, week 21 of 2024 Another sunny week in Denmark, with relatively low winds towards the end, activating a slight amount of storage and flexibility. Renewables made up 100% of demand, and PTX at 69% load. These weekly updates will become increasingly trivial for the next many weeks. My best prediction is that solar and storage alone will be able to power most - if not all - of Denmarks power demand through August, with wind just being an 'added bonus' for power-to-X or export. Of course, that creates new challenges, with saturation and price cannibalisation, which we'll dicuss more another time. ----- Each week, I run a simulation using real-world generation data from the Danish power grid, with #windenergy and #solarenergy scaled to match future (2033) capacities, as forecasted by the Danish Energy Agency. See earlier posts by searching for #WeeklyPowerSimulation. The original idea for such a simplified, but very illustrative, simulation is David Osmond's from Australian Windlab. His version is found on twitter here: https://t.co/5Y3UiKB5Di
