Today is World Day Against Child Labor. Every child deserves access to healthcare, education and protection. But 160 million children worldwide* are enduring grueling hours of work under hazardous conditions, daily abuse and terrible living conditions. As we face this staggering number, we want to hold on to the hope that change is happening. We stand with survivors like Ny*, Godwin, Esther* and Aung* who can now live in freedom. But also acknowledge the urgent need to rescue more children still trapped in violence and trafficking. Today, we invite you to join this worldwide movement against child labor until all children are free. #endchildlabor #untilallarefree *International Labour Organization and UNICEF: 2020 Child Labour Report

160 million children around the world are being trafficked*. Children, who should be spending their time laughing, playing and going to school are instead being lured and trapped in forced labour. But as more people like you join the movement to end forced labour, more children like Ny and Lalin can return home safely. And we can build a world where children are no longer trafficked in the first place. I don't know why today, World Day Against Child Labour is not popularly celebrated as every other International Dates even as important as the focus is towards the future of many Africans. This alone is enough reason to see this video. Imagine waking up every day not to school bells or playgrounds, but to bustling streets, fields, or mines. For millions of children across Africa, this is their harsh reality. Countless children especially those in the informal economy start their days before dawn. They work as domestic helpers, vend goods on the streets, plow, plant, and harvest or often, juggle these responsibilities, leaving no time for education or rest. Yet, the price paid by these youngsters is immeasurable. Often, those serving in households face exploitation and abuse, in mineral-rich regions, their small hands often delve into the depths of the earth to extract cobalt, gold and several other gems around them, enduring long hours under the scorching sun. The physical toll on these children is immense. From heavy lifting to exposure to harmful chemicals as they work in perilous conditions with little to no protection, continuously putting their health at risk. Child labour can have long-lasting psychological effects, including stress, trauma, and a sense of hopelessness about the future as children who are denied education and opportunities for development are likely to remain trapped in poverty as adults. On this day, World Day Against Child Labour 2024, let's raise a voice for the many children labouring and create a chance at a brighter future where children can thrive and reach their full potential. #EndChildLabour #HumanRights #EducationForAll

"A second child has died in youth detention in less than a year. This devastating death of a child in the care of the state reminds us of all the other children who are suffering every day due to the failure of Australian governments to honor our promise to protect the human rights of our children," said National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds. "Australia ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990 but has failed to embed its principles into domestic law." “Thousands of children each year are failed by inadequate support from health, education, and social service systems, resulting in the child protection and youth justice systems being chronically overwhelmed. The basic needs of Australia’s most vulnerable children – such as housing, sufficient food, education, and health care – are not being met." “In a rich and developed country, these are preventable problems of our own making. These children are falling through the gaps created by our neglect and the government’s failure to act on decades of evidence." Ms. Hollonds could not have said it better. We need #reform, and we need it #now for the sake of a #better #future for all children. This #NationalChildProtectionWeek, Every Conversation Matters. 🚨Despite strides in reducing child labor worldwide, an alarming increase of nearly 8 million children into labor since 2016 reminds us of the battles still ahead. Particularly concerning is the surge in hazardous work for children, robbing millions of their innocence and dignity. 🌍 While some regions see hope, Sub-Saharan Africa's escalating numbers serve as a stark warning. It's a fight on multiple fronts: from the fields of Asia-Pacific to the classrooms in Latin America, every child deserves freedom from labor. 🛡️ How You Can Help: Educate others about the harsh realities of child labor. Support organizations like Free the Slaves in their crucial work. Advocate for stronger laws and policies. Empower communities with sustainable alternatives. Together, we can win this war. Join the fight to end child labor. #EndChildLabor #ProtectOurChildren Source: https://lnkd.in/dazAUwE

World Against Child Labour!!! Child labor is a pervasive issue that undermines children's rights and hampers their development. Efforts to combat child labor involve multiple strategies, including stricter enforcement of labor laws, improving access to quality education, and addressing poverty. International organizations like the ILO work towards setting global standards and monitoring compliance. Community awareness programs are vital in changing societal attitudes and promoting the importance of child education over labor. Effective government policies focusing on economic support for families can reduce the financial pressures that drive child labor. Collaboration between governments, NGOs, and businesses is crucial in creating sustainable solutions. #labourday2024 #againstchildlabour #saynotochildlabour #endchildlabourday #educationforall

We analysed over 3,000 recommendations from 61 reports and inquiries into child protection and youth justice systems in Australia between 2010 and 2022. What did we find? Six themes repeatedly emerged across the research, suggesting a wealth of existing evidence on how best to support vulnerable children and young people that can guide effective reform.
