Recent research validates the effectiveness of Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in improving symptoms and reducing cytokine production in rheumatoid arthritis, thereby preventing joint degradation. This approach not only addresses immediate discomfort but also promotes long-term recovery (F. Koopman et al., 2017). Here's a guide for practitioners on manual VNS application: 1. Location: Identify the carotid sheath along the lateral sides of the neck to access the vagus nerve. 2. Manual Stimulation Technique: Position the thumb gently on the accessible part of the vagus nerve at the side of the neck. Use careful, light pressure with slight upward glides to stimulate the nerve, ensuring the movement is soft and within the comfort threshold of the patient. 3. Duration: Continue gentle massage for 2-3 minutes, monitoring for patient comfort. 4. Frequency: Include these techniques regularly in treatment sessions, tailored to patient responses. Utilizing manual VNS techniques can expand your treatment strategies, offering a comprehensive approach to managing autoimmune symptoms in arthritis patients. #RheumatoidArthritis #VagusNerveStimulation #PainManagement #ManualTherapy

Are you tired of seeing patients with facet joint arthritis and knowing there is no other option for them other than pain management? Part of the #Arthrex curriculum pathway, the endoscopic medial branch nerve transection (MBT) is a surgical procedure designed for pain relief. In a new study on endoscopic radiofrequency facet joint treatment for lower back pain* - Forty patients underwent treatment with significant improvement in pain scores - The best results were seen in patients under 60 years of age and those with treatment limited to one or two joints - There was no significant difference in outcomes for patients who had prior percutaneous radiofrequency ablation procedures Learn more about this ultra-minimally invasive treatment option for lower back pain in our scientific update on the MBT procedure: https://lnkd.in/ervmKW-P *Meloncelli S, et al. What a valuable option for applicable patients. Endoscopic surgery is very prominent within the future of spine. What better way to hone your skills than to give patients the relief they deserve, while you familiarize yourself with a technology and approach you may not be familiar with and make a living doing it? #arthrexspine #endoscopicspine #endoscopy #medialbranchnervetransection #thefuture

Are you suffering from Neuropathic pain? This type of pain results from nervous system damage or malfunction, sending incorrect signals to the brain's pain centers. There are two types: 1. Central Neuropathic Pain (CNP) from CNS dysfunction 2. Peripheral Neuropathic Pain from peripheral nerve damage Causes include diabetes, alcoholism, chemotherapy, and more. Symptoms range from spontaneous pain to trouble sleeping. If you need treatment or would like to learn more, contact us today. https://lnkd.in/e4QSm2SQ #NeuropathicPain #ChronicPain #Healthcare

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) GTPS is a chronic discomfort on the outer aspect of the hip. Formerly referred to as trochanteric bursitis, this specific pain condition often mimics pain arising from diverse sources such as myofascial pain, degenerative joint disease, and spinal problems. However, labeling it as trochanteric bursitis might not be entirely appropriate, as the typical signs of inflammation like redness, warmth, and swelling are rarely present. Instead, pain remains the primary symptom. Radiological findings in individuals with GTPS show varying prevalence rates. Bursitis, for instance, is observed in approximately 4% to 46% of cases, while gluteal tendinopathy ranges from 18% to 50% . Given this variability, the preferred clinical term for pain in the lateral hip region is greater trochanteric pain syndrome. #physiotherapy #medecine #GTPS #rehabilitation #pain #tendinoapthy #discomfort
