It was an honour to present with knowledgeable speakers at the 23rd World Congress on Safety & Health this morning at the Symposium 'Digital Transformation and the Human Factor in Machine and System Safety – Opportunities and Risks.' #safety2023 My presentation about safety risk assessments for Collaborative Robots (cobots), I highlighted the key safety principles for cobots. These include: 1.Sensors detect people/objects and 2.Slow or stop automatically. 3.Control systems safety-rated eg PL(d). 4.E-stops readily accessible. 5.Use is restricted eg access by key or PIN. 6. Operators only to conduct tasks covered by a documented procedure, per training (no unauthorised interventions). 7. Only able to select non-collaborative mode when co-workspace clear. 8.Only one source of control possible at a time eg control panel or remote. 9.Only authorised personnel allowed to conduct maintenance, programming of software or modifications. 10.Awareness briefings for all personnel in proximity, including visitors.
