This week at the World Urban Forum in Cairo, we’re diving deep into one of the most urgent conversations of our time: how local actions can drive sustainable cities and communities. Under the theme, “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities,” leaders, changemakers, and communities are coming together to explore real solutions that make our cities more inclusive, resilient, and prepared for the future. Our side event on November 7th, moderated by Jamin M. Kusuania will include passionate discussions about creating spaces where everyone belongs. The United Nations marks “World Cities Day” (Oct 31) to bring awareness of the need for sustainability of the world’s urban areas. As the Body of Christ, we often overlook the needs of cities, instead picturing global missions work as only taking place in remote villages and rural landscapes.  Yet according to the Joshua Project, a significant number of unreached people groups reside in urban areas, with many large cities around the world containing populations from diverse, unreached ethnicities. This is particularly true in global gateway cities like New York, London, and Dubai.  TEAM workers are engaged in impactful, holistic ministry in cities around the world. 🌍 Join us at the World Urban Forum in Cairo for a vital discussion on "Social Media, Inequality, and Futures: Bridging Realities in Policy and Programming" How can social media bridge urban inequalities in the Global South? Join experts from across sectors as we explore innovative approaches to leveraging social media for positive change in displacement contexts. 📅 November 6, 2024 ⏰ 15:00 - 16:30 📍 Multipurpose Room 07, Egypt International Exhibition Center The discussion, facilitated by Dr. Romola Sanyal, Assosicate Profesor at LSE and Ida Zeline Lien, Head of Analysis at Urban-A, will address social media's role in navigating urban space and building communities. It will shed light on how digital divides and information access differ across stakeholders and demographic groups. And provide examples of localised initiatives that unpacks and leverages social media to confront urban inequalities. The session brings together findings from a research project on social media and inequality funded by the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE), led by LSE and Urban-A in partnership with ActionAid, Triangle, and Oxfam. 🌍 Reflecting on #SCEWC24: A Call for Resilient Cities 🌍 RSS-Hydro had the incredible opportunity to attend the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 in #Barcelona, where over 25,000 attendees from 130 countries gathered to discuss the future of urban innovation. This year’s theme, “Live Better,” resonated deeply as we explored solutions to make our cities safer and more resilient. ‼️One of the most pressing topics was the need for cities to protect people and assets from natural hazards.
