Tapping into community connections: This article by Edutopia - George Lucas Educational Foundation resonates deeply with the work we do at the International School of Kenya. Engaging with community partnerships is crucial for enriching student learning, echoing the African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child."
Last week, our grade 10 students embarked on a unique learning experience where they explored various career paths during a week-long Work Experience program. This immersive approach allows students to gain practical insights into different professions, helping them make informed decisions about their future. Some students return with newfound clarity, while others refine their career aspirations based on their experiences.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of over 60 organizations that generously hosted our students in their workplaces. Additionally, we are grateful for the 40 professionals who visited our campus at the beginning of the week to share their career journeys with our students. These partnerships are invaluable, providing our students with real-world experiences that shape their academic and professional journeys.
As we continue to foster these meaningful collaborations, we are reminded of the profound impact community engagement has on student learning and growth. Together, we are nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators.
