Belfast takes a stand against single-use plastics! Some entertainment venues are stepping up to eliminate single-use plastic cups at gigs and events. This 12-month pilot program is driven by the Venue Sustainability Forum and supported by Visit Belfast. These venues have partnered with North Down Marquees Limited, which will supply reusable cups, manage washing at a central facility, and redistribute them to venues. The The SSE Arena, Belfast will lead the way by rolling out reusable cups in mid-January 2025! Belfast is making history as the first city in Ireland and the UK to commit to eliminating single-use plastic cups in entertainment venues. This city-wide initiative, led by the Venue Sustainability Forum and supported by Visit Belfast @visitbelfast will see major and grassroots venues switch to reusable cups over the next 12 months. The scheme relies on a closed-loop system for managing reusable cups. North Down Marquees, a local company, will handle delivery and collection. After use, the cups will be taken to a central washing facility in Carryduff, sanitised, and redistributed back to the venues.
