🚨 Transitioning Forward: ISSB’s Role in Elevating Standards for Climate Transition Plans 🚨 As of the start of November, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has assumed responsibility for the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT). This move highlights the evolving landscape and growing expectations for transition plans globally. Why does this matter? The growing push for corporate transition planning is real and accelerating. Between 2022 and 2023, there’s been a 44% increase in companies disclosing transition plans - a clear sign of rising momentum and market scrutiny. For private markets, the role of supporting portfolio companies through their transition journeys is becoming more crucial than ever. These efforts are not just about aligning with evolving standards - they are pivotal to strengthening valuations at exit, reducing stranded asset risk, and enhancing resilience. Yet, key challenges remain: ❌ Data Availability & Maturity: Many portfolio companies, particularly in early and growth stages, typically lack systems to gather the underlying data needed to accurately measure emissions, such as utility and facility-level data and supplier-specific information. ❌ Access to Cost-Effective Decarbonization Technologies: While decarbonization solutions exist, the cost of adoption remains prohibitive for many smaller and mid-sized portfolio companies. Technologies such as carbon capture and low-emission materials often carry high upfront costs, creating barriers to entry despite potential long-term benefits. ❌ Measuring and Managing Transition-Related Risks: Identifying, quantifying, and managing climate-related and transition risks within the context of portfolio operations is a complex undertaking. Tools for scenario analysis, stress testing, and risk modeling are still maturing, presenting challenges in effectively reducing exposure to potential financial and operational disruptions. Private markets can bridge these gaps through enhanced support structures and forward-looking engagement. What are your thoughts on how private markets can step up their transition planning game? The UNECE and the Government of Türkiye organized 8th UNECE International PPP Forum, which ended with participation from 93 countries online and in-person and resounding call for global resilience and climate action. Rebuilding communities impacted by natural disasters and conflicts, economic recovery, climate resilience and adaptation, were the main topics of discussion during the event. The conference also addressed topics like PPPs for road safety, generative artificial intelligence, small-scale PPPs , women's empowerment, climate-resilient infrastructure and digital transformation. 🌟 #PPPforum #UNECE

I feel inspired by my first week as a Peace and Security #Scholar with the OSCE. It's truly inspiring to see the organization not only recognize but actively address the intertwining challenges of climate change, environmental security, and human stability. During a groundbreaking high-level conference this year, discussions highlighted how climate-induced disparities could intensify competition for resources, trigger migration, and exacerbate tensions. Something which until now was not recognized by a security organization. The OSCE's commitment to fostering multilateral cooperation to manage these risks showcases a proactive approach to integrating environmental concerns into security frameworks. This aligns perfectly with the vision outlined in the OSCE Ministerial Council Declaration on Environment and Security, underscoring the vital role of sustainable practices in promoting peace and security across the region. It's great for me to learn that these crucial conversations have already began at the highest level and multilateral cooperation is progressing, regardless of how slow it may seem to the climate resilience sector. I look forward to more exciting learnings as the course progresses! #OSCE #ClimateSecurity #Peacebuilding

Denmark 🇩🇰 is reaffirming its commitment to global climate action! Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a DKK 30 million (USD 4.3 million) contribution to the United Nations Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN). This funding will support CTCN's Third Programme of Work, which runs until 2027, focusing on advancing climate technologies in developing countries, especially in least-developed countries, Africa, and small island states. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasized the crucial role of technology in addressing the global climate crisis: “The CTCN has a unique position within the global climate landscape, acting as both a convener and broker between different stakeholders and levels of expertise.” Learn more 👉 https://bit.ly/3Dec9xG

Part of the larger and vital project that is the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) and honored to have worked and been schooled by all of the below, this paper starts the discussion that is the next natural step for transition plans: 👏🏼combining mitigation and adaptation which leads to: 🌍 being better able to align to and account for different NDCs and Taxonomies. 🖇️supply chains and work around them addressing local issues in the context of a global environmental goal. And much more. As ever, leading the way. Scott Twigg Nicolette Bartlett Éilis O'Connell CDP Farheen Altaf
The TPT Adaptation Working Group provided advice to the TPT on integrating adaptation and physical resilience into the TPT Disclosure Framework and suite of Sector Guidance. In addition, the Working Group published an advisory paper that provides a brief for practitioners preparing to develop their entities’ climate adaptation and resilience focused disclosures within their transition plan. This paper is not part of the core suite of Transition Plan Taskforce documents and was produced independently of the TPT Steering Group and Delivery Group. #MCST is encouraged by the growing support for an ambitious and equitable transition at the recent International Maritime Organization #ISWGGHG17 meeting. With 39 member states, including several African nations, backing a universal GHG pricing mechanism, the momentum for climate action in shipping is undeniable. The consensus around a combination of GHG pricing and fuel standards signals progress towards a cleaner future. The support for addressing climate vulnerability and ensuring a just and equitable transition aligns with the 6PAC+ coalition’s commitment to equity in maritime #decarbonization efforts.

On 19 June 2024 I presented a paper entitled "Greening TVET for sustainable skill-sets: new opportunities and challenges" .This allowed for scholarly discussions on how to green the TVET curriculum, identify challenges and interrogate ways to overcome the challenges. TVET systems have a mandate to reskill and equip human capital with sustainable green skills for green jobs and economies, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other commitments on climate change.
