As a panelist at the recently concluded Lagos International Water Conference (LIWAC), I emphasized the critical need for states to take charge of solving their own water infrastructure deficits. Rather than relying solely on foreign entities and loans. No one is coming to save you. We must be innovative in our thinking, harness the right leadership, have sincerity of purpose, pursue transparency, as well as disciplined execution. Nigerian leadership often overlooks the fundamental value of water in human life. Without it, survival is impossible, and yet, we have allowed our water infrastructure to decay with little to no maintenance over the years. Reliable water infrastructure is a hallmark of development and is non-negotiable for any serious development agenda.

LAUNCH - SA Aquatics-4-Change Whistleblower Registry. Today, we introduce a crucial initiative for the South African aquatics community. Our whistleblower registey will act as a central hub, accross all disciplines, to record, store, identify trends, address concerns accross the entire aquatics body, building an undeniable body of evidence for action by Swimming South Africa and World Aquatics. Why this Matters: 1. Transparency: Enables reporting of misconduct without fear, ensuring accountability. 2. Protection for Victims: Offers a confidential platform to voice concerns, breaking the cycle of isolation and silence - no cover-ups. 3. Preventive Action: Helps identify and mitigate recurring issues, fostering a positive environment. 4. Accountability: Ensures misconduct is not overlooked, promoting integrity within the executive committee. 5. Cultural Improvement: Aims to create a respectful and inclusive community culture, boosting morale and satisfaction. 6. Regulatory Compliance: Aligns with legal and ethical standards required by governing bodies. Roland Schoeman’s call to Action: "People fear retaliation, like suspension and loss of community, akin to the fears once held by East Germans under surveillance. Like them, if we unite and collectively ‘tap on the wall,’ we can initiate significant change” Report your concerns and join our movement for the reform of Aquatics in South Africa. Share if you care! https://lnkd.in/dcH8_Qxz

Important Notice from Department of Primary Industries - Department of Regional NSW https://bit.ly/3wTCw8L The Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order (No 3) 2024 under the Biosecurity Act 2015 is significant for landholders in NSW and Landcare NSW members because it details obligatory actions to control the spread of fire ants, an invasive species posing considerable biosecurity risks. The order stipulates emergency measures for handling and transporting potential fire ant carriers like organic mulch, soil, compost, manure, and various types of equipment and materials. It mandates treatment protocols, certification requirements, and preventative conditions to mitigate the risk of fire ant dissemination within NSW. For landholders and Landcare NSW members, complying with these regulations is essential to prevent fire ant infestation on their properties and within their communities. Adherence to the order supports broader efforts to protect the state's agricultural and natural environments from the adverse impacts of fire ants, including threats to biodiversity, agriculture, and public amenities. Non-compliance could lead to legal consequences and contribute to the further spread of this invasive species, amplifying its economic, environmental, and social effects in New South Wales. See the the control order in the following link Landcare NSW

The Investment Support Facility (ISF) scheme blends co-financing from the enterprises' own resources, guaranteed business loans distributed by the local financial institutions, and grant support from the project. This new scheme targets over 100 eligible enterprises in the fisheries value chain in addition to the 50 enterprises already being supported by the project's VCIS-FTS. Watch the video below to learn more about the benefits and how to apply for the support. Or visit this link for more information: https://lnkd.in/gvaiA7zn The ISF is administrated by the Credit Guarantee Corporation of Cambodia (CGCC) through the #EuropeanUnion-funded CAPFISH-Capture: Post-harvest Fisheries Development project. Waters - the fundamental building block of us as humans. Key to our survival, our economic development, our housing, our food production, our environment, our adaptability & sustainability to name some of the criticalities of our waters. Hence it is my focus and our council focus as we have been on the journey to understand as well as possible our waters assets over the past 10+ years. Our resolution yesterday went well around our relationship & investigative work together in this key waters space - progress. 🌟🌟🌟 The changing regulatory frameworks, consent pressures, rapid growth, political swings and most importantly the delivery of all waters effectively & efficiently with a strong focus on the affordability. My personal view is we need to have some clear bipartisan agreements across our political parties around our waters [for a starter] as a nation. Clear short medium & long term commitments for NZ Inc. Aotearoa for our small nation of 5million. Long term planning as to our needs and direction that parties can fundamentally agree as we plan our vibrant amazing nation into the next 100years+ https://lnkd.in/gdTSB8z3

Oddbjørn Müller Grønvik and Leo A Grunfeld recently presented a new analysis of the taxation of #aquaculture in #Iceland. The study was conducted on behalf of Fisheries Iceland. The objective was to deepen the understanding of how the recently proposed tax system reform in Iceland will affect the aquaculture industry, both in terms of revenues, value added and international competitiveness. The study also compares the new proposed tax structure with tax systems in Norway and Faroe Islands. The study is summarized in two reports, available here: https://lnkd.in/dcsUxTMY To learn more about our findings, watch the video below: https://lnkd.in/dyNJG4WT John Oskar Holmen Skjeldrum - Lotte Leming Rognsås
