It's the middle of SUMMER - how's your intern doing?
When was the last time you checked in on your summer intern?
How frequently do you provide them with coaching?
3 Tips to easily maximize the back half of summer internship experiences - both for you as a people leader and for your intern.
1. Be sure to provide intentional coaching to your intern. Grab time on their calendar to review the characteristics and behaviors that are benefitting them through the internship to this point. Take a moment to highlight something they have consistently performed well since they began working with you as an intern.
2. Encourage the intern to participate in any corporate-wide intern programming (company picnic, All Hands meetings, Meet the Executive etc.)
3. Ensure there are opportunities for exposure to other teams and networking by creating a schedule for the intern to shadow members in both different and similar roles (this works across the organization as well as within your own team).
Bonus tip: Celebrate the intern by acknowledging their last day with a celebration, such as lunch for the team, or outside activity like happy hour or a bowling night. If you do this right, it's an extraordinary method for attracting top talent!
