🌍 New REGEA Project: Road2Resilience – Adapting to Climate Change in Istria! 🌱 We’re proud to announce the launch of the Road2Resilience project, funded under the Horizon Europe initiative Pathways 2 Resilience (P2R), as part of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. 🚀 REGEA, together with our partners Poreč and Labin, is developing climate adaptation plans using a new methodology that will serve as a model for the entire region. The project began in September and will run for 18 months. 🔹 What’s the goal? To create concrete measures that help cities adapt to climate change, reduce risks, and preserve biodiversity. 🔹 How will we achieve this? The project includes workshops and close collaboration with local authorities to build capacities for implementing climate measures at the local and regional levels. Additionally, we’ll develop new tools and strategies for sustainable climate management in both urban and rural areas. 🌱 Road2Resilience is a step toward a future where cities and regions are proactively prepared for climate challenges. Together, we aim to build more resilient communities and cities. Stay tuned for updates and progress! 💡 #Road2Resilience #P2R #REGEA #ClimateAction #Adaptation #EUClimateMission

Floating cities an intresting option for cities to tackle rising sea level intrusion. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) could utilise such innovation for facing such hazard. Male capital of Maldives is experimenting with such innovation along with Netherlands. But how long could it face the extream weather in the long run is yet an perplexing question. #Floatingcities #Sealevelrise #Innovation #Learn4climate #UNSSCforclimateactions #PACCDA2021 #PACCDA2022 #SPSD2021

🌍 Thrilled to be among the 40 regions selected for the #Pathways2Resilience project! 😀 Chosen for our unique challenges and vulnerabilities, we are ready to lead the way in building a more resilient and sustainable future. Excited for the journey ahead! #P2RSelectedRegions "Ithaki Island has a vulnerability index score of 6.39 at the NUTS 3 level, indicating its heightened vulnerability and low adaptive capacity to climate change impacts. The project aims to equip Ithaki with essential tools and strategies for developing climate resilience pathways, drawing on best practices and experiences shared by municipalities such as Skiathos, an island which has already committed to the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. Εnabling Ithaki's and Skiathos' engagement in various knowledge-sharing activities beyond their target region, will facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences also with other municipalities and regions, fostering community ownership and participation in resilience-building efforts, thus strengthening their resilience to climate change impacts and the effective implementation of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change." 📢 Introducing Our Demonstrator: Burgas and Gabrovo Municipalities Discover our Tuesday Focus: each Tuesday, we’ll shine the spotlight on one of VALORADA’s demonstrators. According to the National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, Bulgaria is exposed to various climate-related extreme events. Burgas and Gabrovo, two Bulgarian municipalities with distinct geographical features, are both part of the VALORADA project. Burgas, located on the Black Sea coast, and Gabrovo, situated in the Balkan Mountains, are advancing their climate adaptation strategies to mitigate growing climate risks. 🌍 What Climate Risks Do They Face? -Burgas faces heavy rainfall causing flash floods that damage public infrastructure and lands. Rising temperatures and droughts also pose risks, affecting human health and nearby protected wetlands -Gabrovo faces rising temperatures and prolonged droughts, impacting forests, ecosystems, and public health. Key challenges include warmer winters and summer droughts, affecting both urban and mountainous areas 🌟 Actions led by our local partners RST-TTO (Copernicus Relays) and Takt-IKI : -Monitoring flash floods -Tracking drought conditions, risk of fires, air quality, and urban heat islands Exploring adaptation strategies tailored to urban environments 🔗 Interested in knowing more about Burgas and Gabrovo? -Discover more on our website: More info -Explore more on our YouTube channel, with the interview of Galina Baycheva from the Burgas Municipality : https://lnkd.in/em2WJAS9 Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon Climate-KIC EARSC Finnish Meteorological Institute Aerospace Valley G.A.C. Happy Earth Day, everyone! 🌍 I'm thrilled to announce the soft launch of AFAR's climate desk. We kick it off with four stories that we hope are as informative as they are inspirational. Afar deputy editor Michelle Baran offers tips on how travelers can more intelligently navigate a world filled with more floods, wildfires, and other extreme weather events. Contributor Kathleen Rellihan explores the possibilities—and limitations—of becoming a “zero-waste traveler,” or trying to add as little pollution into the world as possible. Hannah Singleton reports on the impact climate change is having on national parks across the United States—and the ways in which the park system is building climate resilience. And our advice columnist, Dr. Anu Taranath, responds to a reader who is struggling to reconcile her knowledge of climate change with her desire to show her children the world’s disappearing species and most fragile places. “There are two simultaneous truths here,” she writes. “First, that our individual choices matter, and second, that the threat of climate change is larger than any decision you or I make.” At Afar, we believe in the power of travel as a force for good to make the world a better place through experiences that enrich the traveler personally, support the communities visited, and are sensitive to the effects on our planet. As such, over the coming weeks and months, you'll see stories about sustainability and climate across the Afar universe. Please let me know what you think. What aspects of climate + travel do you think are underreported? What do you hope our climate desk can turn into? What do you hope we stay away from? This summer, I had the great opportunity to participate in a conference promoted by Debagoiena 2030 on how the climate emergency will impact the Debagoiena region, representing the work we do at TECNALIA Research & Innovation on climate change adaptation. The objective was to promote community empowerment and inform key stakeholders in this region of the Basque Country by disseminating existing knowledge related to urban and spatial planning instruments, and their relevance to the climate emergency. Tecnalia contributed from the perspective of managing uncertainty, taking into account both climatic risks and potential adaptation measures to better plan our territories and cities. We shared our expertise on the effects of climate change from an adaptation standpoint, to help better navigate uncertainty. Many thanks to Aritz Ameztegi Elola, for inviting us, as well as the rest of participants for providing such inspiring knowledge and perspectives on 7 spheres of climate change: Onintze Salazar Iñaki Etxebeste Iñaki Antigüedad Elisa Sainz de Murieta Markel Peñalba Retes Unai Pascual, for the audience for such an interesting conversation, as well as to Efrén Feliu Torres and Gemma García Blanco for the opportunity. #urbanplanning #spatialplanning #territory #cities #climatechange #adaptation #uncertainty #climaterisks #innovation #community More info: https://lnkd.in/erPmcSBv
